Volkswagen Arteon breaks cover in Geneva

With the CC being phased out this year, Volkswagen sedan-coupe mix and match lineup are preparing for a new model to take its place. This is it. The Volkswagen Arteon, which will sit just above the Passat.

Based on the brands MQB platform, the CC successor measures in longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model and will also feature distinct characteristics, bolder lines and a lower roofline.

Volkswagen is offering up to six engines with the 2018 model with a choice between petrol and diesel. Petrol variants start with a 1.5-litre TSI motor rated at 148 horsepower and two versions of the 2.0-litre TSI engines rated at 187 hp and 276 hp respectively.

All engines will be mated to a seven-speed dual clutch auto box powering the front wheel with only the most powerful engine being equipped with all-wheel drive.

Inside, the Volkswagen Arteon seems all too familiar with many of the previous model’s markings transitioning across. Of course, there is new technology including active info display and a larger 9.2-inch screen for infotainment purposes.

As the Volkswagen Arteon is classified as a premium model, the four-door gets ambient lighting, emergency assist, lane assist, proactive occupant protection and adaptive cruise control amongst others.

With the model launching either later this year or early next year, the Volkswagen Arteon is destined to rub shoulders with the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupes and the Audi A5 Sportback.

Volkswagen have yet to add a price tag to their next premium model sedan.
