Summary

This 2006 Mercedes-Benz S500 LWB is a well-preserved example of the W221 generation, featuring the desirable long-wheelbase configuration. With just 97,000 km, this car sits significantly below the typical mileage for its age in the GCC, suggesting careful intermittent use rather than daily commuting. The black exterior remains the gold standard for executive resale value in the region, ensuring it holds its appeal at the next trade-in. The S500 offers the perfect balance of power and mechanical simplicity compared to its turbocharged successors, making it a favorite for long-distance cruising across the Emirates. For a GCC buyer, this represents a chance to own a flagship luxury sedan that still commands respect at every valet stand.

This Car vs Other 2006 S500s

With only 97,000 km on the odometer, this S500 has covered roughly 5,000 km per year, which is exceptionally low compared to the GCC average of 20,000 km annually. While many 2006 models in the market have crossed the 200,000 km mark, this low-mileage unit retains much of its original interior integrity and mechanical tightness. The black exterior color further strengthens its market position, as it remains the most requested and easiest-to-resell color for luxury sedans in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

LWB vs Lower Trims

The LWB (Long Wheelbase) trim is the definitive executive choice, providing an extra 10cm of rear legroom that makes a world of difference for chauffeured passengers or family road trips. Over the base S350, this S500 adds the powerful 5.5-litre V8 engine and generally includes higher-specification cabin equipment such as a Harman Kardon audio system and rear-seat climate controls. In the GCC market, the LWB carries a significant premium at resale because of the regional preference for maximum rear-seat comfort and presence.

S500 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW 750Li and Audi A8L of the same era, the S500 leads with its AIRMATIC suspension refinement and the iconic prestige of the three-pointed star. Its 90-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for cross-border trips between Dubai and Muscat, while the Mercedes-Benz service network is arguably the most comprehensive across the entire GCC region. The naturally aspirated V8 is often preferred by local enthusiasts for its linear power delivery and smoother long-term maintenance compared to BMW's turbocharged equivalents.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.5-litre V8 typically returns around 12 L/100km on combined routes, though city driving in stop-start Riyadh or Dubai traffic will see higher figures. As this is a non-GCC spec car, buyers should verify parts compatibility, though the W221 platform is so prevalent in the region that components are readily available at both authorized centers and specialized independent garages. While European luxury sedans face steeper annual depreciation than Japanese rivals, the S500 LWB holds its value better than almost any other luxury sedan in its class due to high demand in the used market.

Performance & Capability

The S500 reaches 100 km/h in a swift 5.4 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on high-speed motorways like the E11. The 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission ensures smooth transitions, while the rear-wheel-drive setup maintains the classic executive driving feel. The air suspension automatically adjusts to provide a cloud-like ride, soaking up road imperfections even at its electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of wood and leather, designed for absolute silence at highway speeds. For the GCC climate, the powerful air conditioning system is supplemented by dedicated rear vents, ensuring all five passengers remain cool even in mid-summer heat. The long-wheelbase layout ensures that even tall adults can stretch out fully in the back, making it one of the most comfortable vehicles for long-distance family travel across the desert.

Safety

This S-Class features the pioneering Pre-Safe system, which prepares the cabin for an impending impact by tensioning seatbelts and closing windows. It includes a comprehensive suite of airbags, electronic stability control, and high-performance brakes with Brake Assist. These systems are particularly valuable on fast-moving GCC highways, providing a layer of protection that was years ahead of its time in 2006.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to secure a low-mileage, long-wheelbase S500 in the GCC's favorite color, offering flagship Mercedes-Benz luxury for a fraction of its original cost.
