• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This GCC-spec Nissan Patrol Safari represents a unique era of Japanese engineering, balancing a bulletproof inline-six engine with the ruggedness of a body-on-frame chassis. While the gold exterior remains a staple in the regional market for heat reflection and resale stability, the Safari trim provides a more focused off-road experience compared to modern luxury-heavy successors. At 18 years old, this vehicle is built for the long-distance highway cruises and desert weekends that define the Gulf lifestyle. For the local buyer, the combination of a simple 4.5-litre powertrain and immense parts availability makes this a highly practical choice for both daily utility and overlanding adventures.

This Car vs Other 2008 Patrols

With 256,000 km, this vehicle's mileage is average for a 18-year-old workhorse in the GCC, where annual driving often exceeds 20,000 km due to inter-city highway travel. The gold finish is one of the most practical choices for the region, offering superior heat rejection and maintaining a higher resale demand compared to darker tones.

HT SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Safari trim upgrades the basic GL utility with essential GCC comforts, including a dedicated rear cooling system and often including the sought-after factory cooler box. It bridges the gap by maintaining the heavy-duty mechanical locking differentials and manual transfer case while adding a more refined cabin environment suitable for family road trips.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Y61 Patrol leads rivals like the Toyota Land Cruiser 100-series in terms of raw off-road simplicity and straight-line stability on sand. Its dual-tank system, totaling 131 litres, offers a significant range advantage for long desert crossings where refueling is not an option.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a combined fuel consumption of approximately 16.5 L/100km, which increases during heavy city traffic or dune driving. As a GCC-spec Nissan, it benefits from one of the strongest service networks in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are affordable and widely available. The Y61 generation enjoys legendary value retention in the local market, often depreciating slower than modern luxury SUVs due to its reputation for durability.

Performance & Capability

The 4.5-litre inline-six delivers 230 hp, prioritizing low-end torque for crawling over steep dunes rather than high-speed sprints. It features a genuine low-range transfer case and a robust all-wheel-drive system designed to handle the extreme 50°C summer heat without overheating. With a wading depth of 700 mm and 210 mm of ground clearance, it remains one of the most capable production 4x4s for exploring the Empty Quarter.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring powerful air conditioning and dedicated rear vents to ensure all passengers stay cool. The Safari trim includes durable materials and an ergonomic layout that withstands fine desert sand and heavy use. Acoustic insulation provides a surprisingly quiet highway ride for a vehicle with such aggressive off-road credentials.

Safety

Safety is managed through a robust all-steel ladder frame that provides a natural protective barrier in collisions. This trim comes standard with dual front SRS airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for improved control on gravel surfaces, and an engine immobilizer. The high driving position and large mirrors offer excellent visibility for navigating fast-moving highway traffic.

The bottom line

Perfect for the enthusiast who values mechanical durability over digital complexity, this Safari is a rare chance to own a legendary GCC workhorse that is as comfortable on the E11 as it is in the Liwa dunes.
