Summary

This Ford Edge Sport represents a sharp find for GCC buyers seeking a crossover that bridges the gap between family practicality and genuine performance. Powered by the potent 2.7L EcoBoost engine, it offers significantly more character and overtaking confidence on fast-moving highways like the E11 than the standard 2.0L or 3.5L variants. Finished in a bold Red, it stands out in a market dominated by white and silver, while remaining a respectable choice for resale. With its All-Wheel Drive system and balanced chassis, it provides stable, car-like handling that remains comfortable during the intense heat of a GCC summer. For the driver who needs space but refuses to settle for a dull commute, this is a highly capable and well-equipped contender.

This Car vs Other 2016 Edges

With 155,688 km on the odometer, this Edge has been driven roughly 19,000 km per year, which sits comfortably below the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. While many crossovers of this age have been used for heavy school runs or cross-border travel, this mileage suggests a more balanced usage profile. The Red exterior is a rarer sight in the UAE market, offering a sportier aesthetic that complements the performance-oriented nature of the Sport trim.

SPORT vs Lower Trims

The Sport trim is the only 2016 model to feature the 2.7L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine, providing a massive torque advantage over the Titanium and SEL trims. Beyond the power, this trim adds a specialized sport-tuned suspension and adaptive steering for a much more connected driving feel. It also comes standard with high-value features for the local market, including a 12-speaker Sony premium audio system and distinctive blacked-out exterior accents that distinguish it from the entry-level Trend models.

Edge vs Segment Rivals

Against rivals like the Nissan Murano and Toyota Harrier, the Edge Sport leads with its turbocharged power delivery, making highway merging effortless in heavy traffic. While Japanese competitors often focus purely on fuel efficiency, the Ford offers a more robust American-engineered feel and a larger 73-litre fuel tank, which is ideal for long desert highway stretches between cities like Dubai and Riyadh. The cabin insulation is also notably superior, providing a quieter environment against wind noise at high cruising speeds.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L V6 typically averages around 11.9 L/100km combined, though you can expect closer to 13.6 L/100km in stop-start city traffic during summer when the AC is at maximum capacity. Ford enjoys a wide authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia via Al Tayer and Al Jazirah, ensuring parts are readily available. While it depreciates faster than a Toyota, the Sport trim holds its value better than the base models due to its enthusiast appeal and higher original specification.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 6.5-second 0–100 km/h sprint, which is exceptionally quick for a 5-seat family SUV and allows for confident overtaking on high-speed arterial roads. The All-Wheel Drive system is road-biased, providing excellent grip during the rare but heavy rain showers that can make local roads slick, and it handles light gravel tracks for weekend farm visits with ease. Unlike body-on-frame SUVs, this monocoque crossover stays flat and composed through corners, offering a much more precise driving experience.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone climate control system and dedicated rear vents to keep all five passengers cool in peak summer. The Sport trim includes supportive leather-trimmed seats with suede inserts that stay cooler to the touch than full leather after being parked in the sun. Acoustic glass and active noise cancellation help maintain a premium, quiet atmosphere, even when cruising at the 140 km/h speed limits found on major UAE motorways.

Safety

This Edge Sport comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including Blind Spot Monitoring and Cross-Traffic Alert, which are vital for navigating the fast-moving, multi-lane highways of the region. The standard Roll Stability Control and AdvanceTrac systems provide an extra layer of protection during emergency maneuvers. Additionally, the 2016 model year features Ford's inflatable rear seatbelts and a driver knee airbag, contributing to its reputation for robust occupant protection.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a buyer who needs a practical family SUV but wants the performance and tech of a premium sport crossover at a used market price point.
