The Grand Sport moniker, unlike so many modern-day performance labels, has its roots firmly planted in the history of motorsport, and more specifically, the world-renowned 24 Hours of the Le Mans endurance race. The first Grand Sport was born in 1963 after Chevrolet engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov took a 1963 Corvette and made it lighter, fitted an aluminium block 377 ci V8 engine, and worked on the aerodynamics. The MK1 Grand Sport was designed to compete with the GT cars of Europe, but unfortunately, it never got to see the track officially. Since then, the Corvette has gone on to enjoy a successful career in motorsports, especially in the GT class at Le Mans. Now the Grand Sport name lives on in the 2019 C7 Corvette.
The Grand Sport uses the 6.2-liter V8 which puts out 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, 0–100km/h comes in an exceptional 3.6 seconds! and It's screamer of an exhaust, which if left in Track mode (its loudest) serves up a satisfying bark of a cold-starting V8 in the morning, or the howl that accompanies a surprisingly quick run up to its 6,500-rpm redline.
In Grand Sport spec you get a wonderful selection of carbon fiber, specifically seen in the hood, side rocker extensions, rear spoiler. Beneath the skin, the Grand Sport borrows pieces from the Z06 as well, both the suspension and limited-slip differential are sourced from the hardcore Vette, giving the Grand Sport a significant edge over the standard Stingray. These upgraded parts also mean the Grand Sport is better equipped to exploit the significant power of the V8!
The interior is designed around the driver like a fighter-jet style cockpit, with the controls and infotainment display all angled towards the left of the car. The driving position is near perfect thanks to a wide range of seat and steering adjustability. The Grand Sport also manages to feel spacious yet sporty at the same time. Interior features on the 2019 Grand Sport include dual-zone climate control, head-up display with readouts for g-force, vehicle speed, and RPM.
Everything operates from an 8” color touchscreen that houses the Chevy MyLink system. You can operate the Bose stereo, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay. Also, from there, you can go through screens of apps including a lot of real-time information like traffic, weather, fuel prices, and more.
One cool feature operated from the touchscreen is the Performance Data Recorder. The system records video of your driving sessions, along with real-time performance data onto an SD memory card so you can analyze your driving abilities.
