Summary

This 2019 Toyota Prado VXR is a prime example of the GCC’s favorite mid-size SUV, finished in high-resale White. While most Prado listings feature the base EXR trim, the VXR adds a layer of refinement and technology that makes it a significantly more comfortable daily driver. With 120,914 km, it sits well within the expected mileage for a five-year-old vehicle in the region, having been primarily used for highway commuting. The 2.7L engine is the preferred choice for owners prioritizing lower running costs and legendary mechanical simplicity. In a market where reliability is the top currency, the Prado’s reputation for withstanding extreme summer heat makes this a secure investment.

This Car vs Other 2019 Prados

With approximately 120,000 km on the odometer, this Prado has covered an average of 24,000 km per year, which is perfectly aligned with the GCC annual average for family SUVs. It avoids the high-wear typical of higher-mileage desert explorers while benefiting from the second facelift's updated styling. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring the fastest possible turnaround at resale.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is a substantial step up from the EXR and GXR, offering a more premium cabin environment with leather-trimmed surfaces and a larger infotainment display. It typically adds advanced features like a sunroof, tri-zone climate control for better rear cooling in summer, and LED headlamps with auto-leveling. For a GCC buyer, the VXR provides the luxury feel of a Land Cruiser 300 in a more maneuverable and efficient package.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Pathfinder in terms of resale value and off-road hardware durability. While the Pathfinder is a road-biased unibody crossover, the Prado retains a rugged body-on-frame construction that handles corrugated desert roads far better. Its 87-litre fuel tank also provides a superior touring range for long drives between cities compared to many modern crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L engine averages around 12.4 L/100km, which is efficient for a full-time 4WD vehicle of this size. Toyota’s authorized service network is the most extensive in the GCC, with service centers available in every major city from Muscat to Kuwait City, ensuring parts are always affordable and available. The Prado maintains one of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, typically retaining over 70% of its value after three years.

Performance & Capability

The 2.7L petrol engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a genuine full-time 4WD system. While it focuses on durability over speed, it remains a highly capable off-roader thanks to its low-range gearing and 215mm ground clearance. Whether navigating stop-start city traffic or light weekend trails, the powertrain is designed for longevity in high-ambient temperatures.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is configured with seven seats, including a flat-folding third row that makes it ideal for large families. The VXR's tri-zone automatic climate control is specifically engineered to combat 45°C+ temperatures, providing dedicated vents for second and third-row passengers. The cabin is well-insulated from road noise, making long desert highway hauls significantly more relaxing.

Safety

Standard safety features on this VXR trim include multiple airbags, Active Traction Control (A-TRC), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution. It also features front and rear parking sensors and a high-resolution rear-view camera to assist with visibility in tight urban parking. The robust body-on-frame design provides an additional layer of passive protection that is highly valued by GCC families.

The bottom line

This Prado VXR is the ideal choice for a GCC buyer who wants a dependable seven-seater that holds its value better than anything else in its class. It’s a low-risk, high-utility SUV that is just as comfortable at a mall valet as it is on a weekend camping trip.
