Summary

This 6-year-old Defender 110 SE P400 represents a modern icon that has transitioned from a utilitarian workhorse to a premium powerhouse. With its black-on-black aesthetic, it holds one of the strongest resale profiles in the GCC market, where dark tones remain highly sought after for luxury SUVs. The P400 powertrain delivers a substantial 400 hp, making it far better suited for overtaking on the E11 than the entry-level four-cylinder variants. Having covered an average of 15,950 km per year, this vehicle sits comfortably below the typical GCC annual usage of 20,000 km, signaling a well-maintained life. For the local buyer, the combination of a sophisticated mild-hybrid engine and legendary off-road hardware makes this a versatile choice for both city commuting and desert weekend escapes.

This Car vs Other 2020 Defender 110s

While many 2020 models in the region have already surpassed the 120,000 km mark due to long-distance commuting between Emirates, this example’s mileage of 95,710 km is considered average-to-low for its age. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the UAE and Saudi markets, often commanding a quicker sale and better price retention than lighter or non-metallic shades. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and cooling complications often found in imported North American salvage or European examples.

SE P400 vs Lower Trims

The SE P400 is a significant leap over the S and base trims, most notably replacing the 2.0L engine with a 3.0L inline-six mild-hybrid unit that provides 100 extra horsepower. Standard equipment on this trim includes the 400W Meridian Sound System, Premium LED headlights with signature DRLs, and 12-way electric memory seats. It also features the ClearSight digital rearview mirror, a critical tech addition for GCC drivers who often fill the cargo area for family trips.

Defender 110 vs Segment Rivals

The Defender 110 stands apart from the Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol by utilizing a modern aluminum monocoque D7x architecture, offering superior on-road refinement and high-speed stability. While rivals offer larger naturally aspirated V8s, the Defender’s turbocharged P400 provides more immediate torque for sand driving while maintaining better fuel efficiency during city traffic. Its 900 mm wading depth also surpasses the standard capability of most luxury crossovers in its class.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the P400 mild-hybrid averages approximately 12.4 L/100km in stop-start traffic, improving significantly on long highway stretches across the Emirates. Authorized service centers are widely available through major distributors like Al Tayer in the UAE and Mohamed Yousuf Naghi in KSA, with standard service intervals typically every 15,000 km or 12 months. While European luxury SUVs generally depreciate faster than Japanese icons, the new-generation Defender has shown remarkably resilient value retention, typically holding roughly 60-65% of its value after three to four years in the GCC.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 400 hp inline-six, this SUV reaches 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, offering performance that rivals many sport-tuned sedans. The standard electronic air suspension allows the vehicle to raise to a maximum ground clearance of 291 mm, essential for clearing high dunes or navigating rocky wadis. With a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg, it is also highly capable of hauling boats or trailers for coastal weekends.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed to stay quiet and cool even in 45°C+ summer heat, thanks to heavy-duty GCC-spec air conditioning and high-quality insulation. The SE trim features grained leather upholstery and a 10-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system that supports seamless smartphone integration. The Meridian audio system provides a premium acoustic experience, masking road noise during long cross-border drives.

Safety

This trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including a 3D Surround Camera system that is invaluable for both tight mall parking and technical off-roading. Standard features include Blind Spot Assist, which is essential for the fast-paced multi-lane highways of the region, and Lane Keep Assist to manage driver fatigue on long desert stretches. Emergency Braking and Rear Traffic Monitor add additional layers of security for family-oriented owners.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the prestige and performance of the P400 engine without the high-mileage risks typical of 2020 models, this GCC-spec SE represents a balanced and safe investment in a legendary nameplate.
