Land Rover Range Rover AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Highlights

• 740 Nm of torque
• 900 mm maximum wading depth
• 24-way heated and cooled massage front seats

Summary

This 2020 Range Rover Autobiography represents the height of Land Rover luxury, powered by the sought-after 4.4L V8 powertrain that balances immense torque with refined highway cruising. As an Autobiography trim, it comes with a significantly higher interior specification than the standard Vogue, including semi-aniline leather and executive-class rear seating. While its European specification means it missed the initial GCC-market premium, it offers a more accessible entry point into flagship luxury for those who prioritize features and engine character. The black-on-black color combination remains the most liquid and desirable choice for resale in the UAE and wider GCC. For any buyer, the primary consideration with this European import is ensuring a dedicated maintenance schedule at a specialist familiar with Land Rover’s sophisticated air suspension and electrical systems.

This Car vs Other 2020 Range Rovers

With 149,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the typical 20,000 km annual GCC average, suggesting a life of consistent highway use. Its black exterior is a high-demand color in the local market, ensuring it retains better visual appeal and resale liquidity compared to lighter or niche tones. As a European spec, it offers a high equipment level but requires careful inspection of the cooling system to ensure it meets the demands of the local summer.

Autobiography vs Lower Trims

The Autobiography trim is a major leap over the Vogue and Vogue SE, adding standard features that are essential for the GCC climate, such as a higher-capacity 24-way seat adjustment with cooling and massage functions. It also upgrades the cabin with a full leather headlining, the premium Meridian Surround Sound system, and the Driver Assist Pack, which includes 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control for safer highway driving.

Range Rover vs Segment Rivals

The Range Rover stands apart from rivals like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS through its peerless 900 mm wading depth and legendary Terrain Response 2 system. While competitors focus on on-road dynamics, the Range Rover offers a 105-litre fuel tank that is ideal for long-distance cross-border drives between UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. Its split-tailgate design and iconic silhouette provide a level of prestige that remains unmatched in the executive SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.4L V8 engine delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.3 L/100km, making it surprisingly efficient for a full-size SUV on long highway stretches. As a European spec vehicle, it typically sees an annual depreciation of 15-18% in the UAE, slightly higher than its GCC-spec counterparts. Service intervals are generally every 12,000 km, and while parts are widely available across major GCC cities, specialist service centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are recommended to maintain its complex systems.

Performance & Capability

Lead by a massive 740 Nm of torque, this V8 engine provides effortless overtaking power even when fully loaded. The electronic air suspension allows the vehicle to reach a maximum ground clearance of nearly 295 mm, making it capable of navigating soft sand or rocky terrain with ease. It also boasts a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, making it a highly capable choice for weekend expeditions with trailers or boats.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of high-grade materials, featuring standard four-zone climate control that is vital for maintaining rear-passenger comfort during the peak GCC summer. Both front and rear seats are ventilated and heated, ensuring all occupants remain comfortable regardless of the outside temperature. Acoustic laminated glass and heavy-duty insulation significantly reduce road and wind noise, providing a whisper-quiet environment during long commutes.

Safety

This Autobiography is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including high-speed Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Keep Assist, which are particularly valuable on the fast-moving highways of the UAE. The 360-degree Surround Camera system provides essential visibility for parking a vehicle of this size, while the standard Driver Condition Monitor helps prevent fatigue during long desert drives. Multiple airbags and a high-strength aluminum body structure ensure maximum occupant protection.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a buyer seeking the ultimate Range Rover trim at a significantly lower price point than a GCC-spec equivalent. It is the perfect choice for an owner who values the prestige and features of the Autobiography and is prepared to invest in specialist maintenance.
