Summary

This 2020 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG stands out as the definitive luxury performance icon in the GCC, combining its legendary military heritage with a modern biturbo V8 powertrain. At 106,000 km, this European-spec example offers a high-performance entry into G-Wagon ownership for those prioritizing mechanical character and heritage. Black is a premier resale color in the regional market, ensuring strong liquidity when it comes time to upgrade. While rivals focus purely on road speed, the G63 remains one of the few vehicles capable of handling serious desert terrain while maintaining absolute prestige on city streets. The most important consideration for a GCC buyer is the European specification, which offers a slightly different climate configuration but retains the same world-class engineering found in local models.

This Car vs Other 2020 G63 AMGs

With 106,000 km over 6 years, this vehicle sits slightly above the average mileage typical for the region, where highway-heavy commutes often result in 15,000–20,000 km per year. The black exterior is the most sought-after color in the GCC used market, providing a significant advantage in resale speed compared to more adventurous palettes. As a European-spec model, it offers a high standard of cabin electronics and materials, making it a compelling alternative to local units.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The AMG G63 represents the top of the G-Class hierarchy, adding the handcrafted 4.0L biturbo V8 and the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission over the G500. This trim includes essential GCC features such as the 12.3-inch widescreen cockpit, Burmester surround sound, and high-performance LED headlamps. Unlike lower trims, the G63 features side-exit exhaust pipes and a rear-biased 40:60 4MATIC system for a more dynamic driving experience on UAE highways.

G63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The G63 competes with the Range Rover SVR and the Lamborghini Urus, leading the segment in pure off-road hardware with its three independent locking differentials. While the Urus is faster on the track, the G-Class offers a commanding upright driving position and superior ground clearance of 241 mm for desert excursions. Its 100-liter fuel tank is specifically designed for long-distance cross-border journeys, outclassing many performance crossovers in total range.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages approximately 13.2 L/100km on the highway, though GCC stop-start traffic can see figures rise toward 18 L/100km. Mercedes-Benz maintains an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with parts availability being among the best for European brands in the region. The G-Class holds a legendary reputation for value retention in the GCC, often retaining over 70% of its value after five years, significantly outperforming rivals like the Range Rover Sport.

Performance & Capability

The 585 hp biturbo V8 delivers a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.5 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11. Its 850 Nm of torque is available from low revs, which is critical for maintaining momentum in soft sand during desert weekends. The vehicle features a low-range transfer case and a 700 mm maximum wading depth, ensuring it remains as capable off-road as it is aggressive on the pavement.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is insulated with acoustic glass to protect occupants from the intense GCC summer heat and road noise. Standard equipment includes a 3-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents, ensuring all passengers remain cool during long drives between Emirates. The interior features a signature mix of Nappa leather and carbon fiber, providing a tactile sense of luxury that complements the vehicle’s rugged exterior.

Safety

This trim features a comprehensive safety suite including Active Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and a 360° camera system which is indispensable for navigating tight parking in Dubai or Riyadh. The adaptive cruise control and Distronic Plus systems are particularly useful for reducing driver fatigue on long desert highway stretches. Its robust body-on-frame construction provides a level of passive safety and durability rarely found in the modern luxury SUV segment.

The bottom line

For the UAE enthusiast seeking the most recognizable silhouette on the road, this G63 offers legendary AMG performance in the market's favorite color. It is an ideal opportunity for a buyer looking to step into a modern G-Wagon that is ready for both high-street valet and weekend desert dunes.
