Summary

This 2020 Nissan Patrol Super Safari is a prime example of the legendary Y61 generation, widely considered the gold standard for off-road durability in the GCC. With just over 72,000 km, its mileage is significantly lower than the regional average for a four-year-old adventure SUV, making it a rare find for enthusiasts. The Super Safari trim adds essential desert-ready features like a factory cool box and navigation that lower trims lack. Finished in a heat-reflective Gold that holds its resale value exceptionally well in the local market, this vehicle is built to outlast modern crossovers in extreme desert conditions. For a GCC buyer, this is the ultimate balance of a modern-year build with the 'unbreakable' mechanical soul of an icon.

This Car vs Other 2020 Patrols

While many 2020 Patrols in the GCC have surpassed the 100,000 km mark due to long-distance desert and highway use, this Super Safari has covered only 72,528 km, placing it in the top tier for mechanical longevity. The Gold exterior is highly strategic for the region; it resists the dulling effects of sand and heat better than darker shades while remaining a top-three choice for resale strength. This lower-than-average mileage combined with a strong regional color makes it a stand-out investment in the used market.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari is a significant leap over the standard Safari and GL trims, featuring the high-output 4.8L VTC engine as standard alongside a 5-speed automatic transmission. Inside, you get premium tan leather upholstery, a factory-integrated navigation system, and the essential 'cool box' refrigerator for GCC summers. It also includes the iconic wide-fender body kit, electric sunroof, and 17-inch alloy wheels that are often absent or optional on the base utilitarian models.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Super Safari competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler, but it leads the segment in long-distance comfort and fuel range thanks to its 135-litre dual-tank system. While rivals focus almost entirely on utility, the Patrol offers a superior balance of interior refinement and daily usability without sacrificing its heavy-duty body-on-frame construction. Its inline-six engine is specifically favored in the GCC for its tuning potential and reliability in high-heat environments compared to the V6 alternatives.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a real-world combined fuel consumption of roughly 17.2L/100km, which is standard for a heavy-duty 4.8L 4x4 in GCC stop-start traffic and highway cruising. Service intervals for the Patrol are typically every 10,000 km, with an extensive network of authorized Nissan centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensuring parts are always accessible. The Super Safari Y61 is one of the few vehicles in the region that enjoys 'cult status,' leading to a remarkably low annual depreciation rate and very high demand in the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

The 4.8L VTC engine delivers a robust 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, providing the low-end grunt required for climbing steep dunes in Liwa or overtaking on the E11 highway. Its legendary 4WD system features a manual low-range transfer case and a rear differential lock, allowing it to navigate terrain that would stop modern unibody SUVs. With a top speed of 190 km/h and high ground clearance, it is engineered for the specific demands of cross-border GCC road trips and weekend desert expeditions.

Comfort & Cabin

This 7-seater features a spacious tan leather interior designed to stay comfortable during long drives between emirates. The air conditioning system is widely regarded as one of the most powerful in the automotive world, featuring dedicated rear vents to keep all passengers cool in 45°C+ temperatures. Practical touches like the cooled center console box and foldable rear seats make it as capable for family grocery runs as it is for carrying camping gear into the desert.

Safety

Standard safety features on this Super Safari include dual front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Cruise control is standard for reducing fatigue on long desert highways, while the reinforced body-on-frame construction provides a robust safety shell. Front and rear parking sensors along with a rearview camera are included to assist in navigating city parking, providing essential visibility for a vehicle of this size.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who wants the 'unbreakable' reputation of the Safari with the modern features of a 2020 model, this low-mileage Super Safari is the most dependable 4x4 choice in the GCC today.
