Summary

This 2021 Super Safari represents the peak of the iconic Y61 generation, a model held in high regard across the GCC for its unmatched desert endurance. Finished in black, a strong resale color in the local market, it features the legendary 4.8L powertrain that has become a cult favorite among off-road enthusiasts. With 110,000 km, the mileage is average for a three-year-old GCC workhorse, suggesting it has been used primarily for the long-distance highway hauls it was designed for. While rivals have moved toward smaller, turbocharged engines, the Super Safari retains its naturally aspirated character, offering a level of mechanical simplicity that is increasingly rare. For a buyer in the Emirates or Saudi Arabia, the sheer reliability and vast parts availability make this an exceptionally low-stress ownership proposition.

This Car vs Other 2021 Patrols

At 110,000 km, this vehicle’s mileage is consistent with typical GCC usage patterns, where long-distance inter-city commutes are standard. Unlike the more common Y62 V8 models from the same year, this Super Safari caters to a specific buyer looking for the heritage and ruggedness of the Y61 platform. The black exterior is a perennial favorite in the region, ensuring it remains highly liquid in the used market.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim adds essential premium features over the standard Safari, including a power-operated winch and rear diff-lock as standard. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with tan leather upholstery, wood-grain trim, and an electric sunroof, bridging the gap between a hardcore 4x4 and a comfortable daily driver. It also features the signature grey wide-fender flares and 17-inch dark-finish alloy wheels that distinguish it on the road.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Super Safari primarily competes with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler, though it offers significantly more interior volume and a more refined highway ride than either. Its 175-litre dual-tank system provides a cruising range that few modern SUVs can match, making it the preferred choice for cross-border GCC expeditions. While competitors may offer more modern infotainment, none match the Patrol’s reputation for cooling performance in 50°C heat.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.8L engine typically averages 17.2 L/100km, reflecting its high-displacement nature and the demands of GCC climate control. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km at any of the numerous authorized Nissan centers across the UAE and KSA, with parts being some of the most widely stocked in the region. The Super Safari enjoys legendary value retention, often depreciating at a much slower rate than European luxury SUVs due to its high demand in the secondary off-road market.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is the 4.8-litre VTC engine producing 280 hp and a massive 451 Nm of torque, specifically tuned for low-end grunt in deep sand. It features a heavy-duty 5-speed automatic transmission paired with a selectable 4WD system and a rear locking differential for extreme terrain. With a top speed of 190 km/h and a robust body-on-frame construction, it remains one of the most stable platforms for high-speed desert crossings and heavy-duty towing.

Comfort & Cabin

The 7-seat configuration is designed with GCC family life in mind, featuring a powerful dual-zone air conditioning system that is widely considered the best in its class. Brown leather seats and black wood accents provide a premium feel, while the elevated driving position offers excellent visibility for both city traffic and dune navigation. Standard features like a cool box in the center console are essential for maintaining cold beverages during long summer drives across the desert.

Safety

Safety is managed through a combination of traditional rugged engineering and essential electronic aids, including dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). For the GCC driver, the inclusion of Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) provides peace of mind during high-speed highway travel and varying sand conditions. The heavy-duty steel chassis provides a natural protective barrier that remains a core reason for the model's enduring popularity.

The bottom line

Perfect for the GCC enthusiast who values mechanical heritage and desert dominance, this 2021 Super Safari offers a rare chance to own a modern classic in its most desirable trim.
