Summary

This 2021 Nissan Patrol Safari represents a rare opportunity to own the legendary Y61 platform in its modern, most refined form. Finished in black, which remains one of the most sought-after colors for resale in the GCC, this unit bridges the gap between a rugged off-road icon and a reliable daily driver. The Safari trim is highly prized in the UAE and Saudi Arabia for its specific mechanical upgrades and robust drivetrain that rivals modern electronic SUVs for sheer durability. With mileage that reflects typical highway use in the region, this vehicle is perfectly suited for a buyer who values long-term mechanical simplicity and desert-ready performance.

This Car vs Other 2021 Nissan Patrols

With approximately 104,000 km, this Safari has averaged roughly 26,000 km per year, which is standard for a primary vehicle in the GCC where long-distance highway commutes between emirates are common. Unlike American or European imports, this GCC-spec model is specifically engineered with enhanced cooling systems to handle extreme local temperatures. The black exterior significantly strengthens its position in the used market, as it is a premier resale choice alongside white and silver in the region.

SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Safari trim sits above the base GL, adding essential hardware and comforts that GCC buyers prioritize, such as the rear differential lock and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Safari provides a more civilized experience with upgraded upholstery, cruise control, and a superior audio system compared to the utilitarian GL. It also features the signature spare wheel cover and distinctive decals that signal its status as a dedicated desert-capable variant.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Safari leads its primary rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series, by offering a more refined cabin and a smoother highway ride thanks to its coil-spring suspension setup. While rivals often rely on smaller V6 or diesel engines, the Patrol's 4.8L 'VTC' inline-six is legendary in the Gulf for its tuning potential and linear power delivery. It offers a massive 175-litre total fuel capacity (including the sub-tank), providing a cruising range that few modern SUVs can match for cross-border desert expeditions.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.8L VTC engine is known for being fuel-heavy, typically consuming between 16 and 18 L/100km depending on how much time is spent in GCC city traffic versus open highway cruising. However, this is offset by exceptional reliability and some of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE market, often retaining up to 80% of its value over three years. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 to 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive authorized service network in the region, ensuring parts are available in even the most remote areas.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is the 4.8-litre inline-six producing 280 hp and 420 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic that includes a manual shift mode for technical dune driving. It features a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive system with a selectable low-range transfer case and a factory-fitted rear differential lock, making it nearly unstoppable in deep sand. With 215 mm of ground clearance and high approach angles, it is purpose-built for the challenging terrain of the Liwa Desert or the Hajar Mountains.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-door configuration offers a spacious five-seat layout with a powerful air conditioning system designed to cool the entire cabin rapidly even in 50°C summer heat. Practicality is a core focus, featuring a cooled center console box to keep beverages cold during long drives and durable interior materials that stand up to sand and dust. The cabin is insulated to provide a surprisingly quiet environment on the highway, making it a viable family vehicle for weekend trips across the Emirates.

Safety

This Safari trim includes essential safety features for the region, including dual front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) helps maintain stability on loose gravel and sand surfaces, while cruise control reduces driver fatigue during long desert highway stretches. The heavy-duty body-on-frame construction provides a robust physical safety shell that has earned the Patrol its reputation for legendary durability.

The bottom line

This 2021 Safari is the perfect choice for the enthusiast who wants the 'Golden Era' of Nissan engineering with the reliability of a modern model year. It offers a balance of iconic styling, immense fuel range, and a resale profile that makes it a safe financial asset in the GCC market.
