Summary

This 2021 Volkswagen Teramont offers an exceptional entry into the full-size family SUV segment, combining German engineering with a silver exterior that is highly favored for resale in the GCC. With mileage that aligns perfectly with the average annual use of a regional commuter, this SUV represents a reliable and modern choice for families who need genuine seven-seat versatility. The Trendline trim provides the core strengths of the MQB platform, including robust build quality and advanced safety, without the premium price tag of higher-spec models. As the largest SUV in Volkswagen's Middle East lineup, it delivers the cabin space of a minivan with the commanding road presence and all-weather capability of a 4x4. It is perfectly suited for the daily school run in Dubai or long-distance highway cruises across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2021 Teramonts

At 73,087 km, this Teramont has been driven approximately 24,000 km per year, which is remarkably consistent with the standard annual mileage for large family SUVs in the GCC. While many regional examples often exceed 100,000 km in three years due to frequent inter-emirate travel, this vehicle sits comfortably in the average range for its model year. The Silver Metallic exterior is a top-tier choice for the local market, offering the best resistance to desert heat and maintaining a high resale value due to its enduring popularity.

TRENDLINE vs Lower Trims

The Trendline serves as the foundational trim for the Teramont in the GCC, yet it remains generously equipped with features local buyers prioritize, such as App-Connect for seamless smartphone integration and a rear-view camera. Unlike basic entry-level SUVs in this segment, the Trendline includes full LED headlights and 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment. While higher trims add panoramic roofs and leather upholstery, the Trendline’s durable fabric seating is often preferred by families for its superior breathability during peak summer months.

Teramont vs Segment Rivals

The Teramont stands out against rivals like the Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander by offering a class-leading 2,741 litres of total cargo space when both rear rows are folded. Its third row is widely considered one of the most spacious in the class, capable of seating two adults comfortably, whereas many competitors offer 'emergency' third-row seating only suitable for children. Furthermore, the German-tuned suspension provides a more composed and stable feel at GCC highway speeds compared to the softer setups found in American-spec rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L TSI engine balances efficiency with utility, delivering a combined fuel consumption of approximately 9.4L/100km, which is particularly effective in GCC highway conditions. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the extensive authorized service networks of Al Nabooda and Ali & Sons in the UAE, ensuring parts and qualified technicians are never far away. The Teramont has shown strong value retention in the regional market, typically depreciating at a slower rate than smaller European crossovers due to the high demand for seven-seater family vehicles.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with the 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive system, the Teramont offers secure traction across a variety of surfaces, from gravel tracks to rain-slicked motorways. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 350 Nm of torque, providing plenty of low-end power for overtaking on the E11 or E311 highways. Despite its size, the 8-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth power delivery, allowing the vehicle to reach a top speed of 190 km/h with a composed and quiet cabin environment.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for large family logistics, featuring a massive 7-seat layout and 17 dedicated cup holders to ensure everyone stays hydrated during summer drives. Volkswagen’s 'easy entry' system allows the second row to slide and tilt forward even with child seats installed, providing effortless access to the rear. The air conditioning system is specifically optimized for the Middle East, with dedicated vents for all three rows to maintain rapid cooling even when external temperatures exceed 45°C.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the Teramont, which comes standard with six airbags and a high-strength safety cage construction. Key features for the GCC driver include Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which are invaluable for navigating multi-lane traffic in Riyadh or Dubai. The vehicle also includes a multi-collision brake system and ISOFIX points across the second and third rows, making it one of the most secure family transport options in its price bracket.

The bottom line

For a GCC buyer seeking a spacious, German-engineered family hauler with the right spec for the local climate and market, this well-maintained silver Teramont is a highly pragmatic and reliable investment.
