Summary

This 2022 Volkswagen Teramont HIGHLINE is an exceptional find for families in the GCC who require genuine seven-seat capacity without sacrificing the premium feel of a European SUV. While the mileage reflects active use, it is well within the expectations for a high-utility family vehicle used for cross-emirate commutes and school runs in the UAE. As the top-tier HIGHLINE trim, this vehicle offers a level of interior refinement and technological sophistication that places it ahead of many its Japanese and American rivals in the mid-size SUV segment. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, balancing professional aesthetics with excellent heat-deflection properties and strong resale appeal in the local used market. Powered by a robust 3.6L V6 engine, it provides the smooth power delivery necessary for confident highway overtaking on fast-moving roads like the E11. For a buyer looking for a reliable, safe, and prestigious family hauler that is fully adapted to the heat and demands of the Gulf, this GCC-spec Teramont represents a mature and sensible investment.

This Car vs Other 2022 Teramonts

When comparing this specific 2022 model to others currently available in the GCC market, the primary differentiator is its HIGHLINE status, which ensures it retains a higher residual value than the Trendline or Comfortline variants. The mileage of 138,222 km is slightly above the typical 25,000 km per year average for the UAE, but for a Volkswagen V6, this often indicates a vehicle that has spent the majority of its life on open highways rather than straining in stop-start city traffic. Historically, highway miles in the GCC are much easier on the transmission and cooling systems than urban idling in the summer heat. The Grey exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the secondary market, second only to white, because it hides the inevitable desert dust exceptionally well between washes. This unit presents a cohesive package of a modern, well-maintained European SUV that has been used exactly as intended for long-distance family travel. Choosing this HIGHLINE variant ensures you are starting with a higher baseline of luxury and tech compared to the average 2022 listing.

HIGHLINE vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the HIGHLINE trim transforms the Teramont from a standard family SUV into a luxury environment that rivals premium German brands. Unlike the base trims, the HIGHLINE adds the stunning 12.3-inch Digital Cockpit, which allows the driver to customize their gauges and navigation views, a feature incredibly helpful for navigating complex interchanges in Dubai or Riyadh. You also benefit from the panoramic sunroof that bathes all three rows in natural light, though it is heavily tinted to keep the GCC sun at bay. The climate control system is upgraded to a three-zone Climatronic system, ensuring that passengers in the third row receive the same cooling performance as those in the front—a critical factor during July and August. Additionally, the HIGHLINE features premium leather upholstery and ventilated front seats, which are a necessity rather than a luxury in this climate. The inclusion of a 360-degree camera system in this trim makes parking this large SUV in tight mall basements significantly easier than in lower trims equipped only with rear sensors.

Teramont vs Segment Rivals

The Teramont competes in the highly contested three-row SUV segment against the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. Where the Volkswagen takes the lead is in absolute interior volume; while rivals often have a 'child-only' third row, the Teramont provides genuine adult-sized legroom in the very back, making it a true 7-seater. Unlike the Highlander which focuses on hybrid efficiency, the Teramont’s 3.6L V6 is preferred by many GCC drivers for its predictable power delivery and durability in extreme heat. Its wheelbase is one of the longest in its class, which translates to a much more stable and planted feeling at 120 km/h on the highway compared to the softer ride of American competitors. The cargo space with the third row in place also exceeds most rivals, allowing for grocery hauls or school gear without needing to fold seats down. For families who find the Japanese alternatives a bit too utilitarian, the Teramont offers a more sophisticated, solid, and 'heavy' driving feel that is characteristic of German engineering.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for a GCC-spec 3.6L Teramont are predictable and well-supported by a vast network of Volkswagen service centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. The naturally aspirated V6 engine is a tried-and-tested powerplant that avoids the complexities of turbochargers, making it better suited for the high ambient temperatures of the Gulf. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 11.5L/100km on the highway, while city driving in heavy traffic can see that rise to 14.5L/100km, which is competitive for a vehicle of this size and weight. Parts availability is excellent throughout the region, ensuring that routine maintenance doesn't result in long downtime. In terms of resale, the HIGHLINE trim holds its value better than mid-range models, typically seeing a depreciation of about 15% annually in the UAE market. Because this is a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains full compatibility with local service history tracking and avoids the insurance hurdles often associated with American-spec imports. Buyers can expect this model to remain highly liquid in the used market for the next three to five years.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood is Volkswagen’s reliable 3.6-liter VR6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain is specifically mapped to handle the high-speed overtakes required on GCC motorways, providing a linear power curve that feels confident even when the car is fully loaded with seven passengers. The 4MOTION All-Wheel Drive system is not just for adverse weather; it constantly redistributes power to provide maximum grip on sandy road shoulders or during heavy seasonal rain in the Northern Emirates. While not a dedicated dune basher, the Teramont offers respectable ground clearance that handles gravel tracks and weekend camping spots with ease. It features several driving modes, including an 'On-Road' mode that optimizes fuel economy and a 'Snow/Off-Road' mode that adjusts traction control for looser surfaces. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in approximately 8.9 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle with such massive interior proportions. Braking performance is equally stout, providing the stopping power necessary for heavy highway traffic.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of the Teramont HIGHLINE is designed with a 'function-first' philosophy that masks a high level of luxury. The seating arrangement is incredibly flexible, with a second row that slides forward and backward to prioritize either legroom or cargo space. For the GCC buyer, the highlight is the powerful HVAC system, which has been specifically tropicalized to reach cabin-wide cooling temperatures in minutes, even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. The HIGHLINE trim is equipped with the Fender Premium Audio System, providing a concert-like experience that makes long drives to Salalah or Al Ain much more enjoyable. Acoustic glass and extensive sound insulation work together to keep the cabin remarkably quiet, shielding passengers from wind noise and the roar of surrounding truck traffic. Storage is abundant, with numerous cupholders and deep door bins designed to hold large water bottles for all seven occupants. The fit and finish are tight, with soft-touch materials at all primary touchpoints, giving the interior a cohesive and premium feel.

Safety

Safety is where the Teramont truly shines, carrying a 5-Star rating and a suite of sensors designed to protect a full family. This HIGHLINE trim comes standard with Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking, which are vital for the sudden stops common in urban Gulf traffic. Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert provide an extra set of eyes when lane-changing on wide 6-lane highways or reversing out of crowded parking spots. Adaptive Cruise Control is a standout feature for this model, allowing the car to maintain distance from the vehicle ahead during long desert transits, significantly reducing driver fatigue. It also features a robust tire pressure monitoring system, which is essential for safety given the extreme road temperatures that can affect tire integrity in the summer. With six airbags and a high-strength steel safety cage, it offers the peace of mind that a family-focused buyer in the GCC prioritizes above all else.

The bottom line

This Teramont HIGHLINE is the perfect match for a growing family that needs the space of a minivan but wants the prestige and capability of a German SUV. Given its top-tier specification and GCC pedigree, it offers a sophisticated ownership experience that few others in this price bracket can match.
