Summary

This 2022 Super Safari represents the final evolution of the iconic Y61 generation, a vehicle that commands deep respect across the UAE for its unmatched desert prowess. With 77,000 km, this example has been driven slightly above the GCC annual average but remains mechanically robust thanks to its legendary 4.8L VTC engine. The black exterior is a premier resale choice in the region, ensuring strong value retention for years to come. Unlike modern turbocharged rivals, this Patrol offers the mechanical simplicity and durability that enthusiasts demand for serious dune bashing. For a buyer seeking the perfect balance of heritage and modern tech like Apple CarPlay, this GCC-spec icon is the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2022 Nissan Patrols

Compared to the more road-biased Y62 Patrol, this Super Safari is a purist's machine built specifically for durability in extreme heat. Its mileage reflects consistent highway use between emirates, yet it remains well-positioned against other Y61s which are often heavily modified; this unit maintains the factory reliability sought by collectors. The black paint is highly desirable in the local market, making it a safer financial asset than more niche colors.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim elevates the base Safari experience with essential GCC luxuries, most notably the tan leather seats with special embossing and a power sunroof. Technologically, it adds a 2-DIN display with Apple CarPlay and a wireless smartphone charger, features rarely found in the more utilitarian base trims. Externally, it is distinguished by the iconic side decals and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels that signify its top-tier status.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

While the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series offers similar ruggedness, the Patrol Super Safari leads in cabin comfort with its superior automatic climate control and coil-spring suspension that provides a more refined ride on UAE highways. Its 4.8L inline-six provides a smoother power delivery compared to the V6 alternatives in the classic 4x4 segment. Furthermore, the Patrol’s massive 175-litre dual-tank system offers significantly more range for long-distance desert expeditions than most mid-size rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The TB48DE engine is known for its thirst, averaging approximately 17.2 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, but it compensates with exceptional parts availability at every corner of the region. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 to 10,000 km, with a vast network of authorized Nissan centers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensuring low-cost maintenance. The Super Safari trim holds its value exceptionally well, often depreciating at just 8-10% annually due to its cult-like status among local enthusiasts.

Performance & Capability

The 4.8L VTC engine delivers 280 hp and a substantial 451 Nm of torque, allowing it to climb the tallest dunes in Liwa with ease. The 5-speed automatic is paired with a straight-line drive transfer case and a factory rear differential lock, providing the hardware necessary for serious off-roading. With a top speed of 190 km/h, it remains a capable highway cruiser, while its heavy-duty suspension and high approach angles ensure it handles rocky terrain as easily as soft sand.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Super Safari features a 7-seat layout with premium tan leather that stays cooler in the summer compared to darker fabrics. The air conditioning system is legendary in the GCC for its ability to reach freezing temperatures rapidly, even when parked in 45°C heat. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this generation to reduce wind noise during long drives to Al Ain or Hatta. The inclusion of wood-grain trim and a cool box adds a touch of traditional luxury to the rugged interior.

Safety

Safety is managed through Nissan Intelligent Mobility features, including dual-front SRS airbags and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) essential for sand driving. The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and ABS provide stability on both wet asphalt and loose gravel, while the cruise control reduces driver fatigue on long highway stretches. This GCC-spec model also features an integrated rear-view camera to assist with parking this large SUV in tight city spaces.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who values mechanical heritage over digital complexity, this 2022 Super Safari is a rare opportunity to own a modern classic that is as comfortable in downtown Dubai as it is in the deep desert.
