Summary

This 2022 Nissan Patrol Super Safari is a modern tribute to an off-road legend, offering a rare mechanical purity that's increasingly hard to find in the SUV market. With its distinctive white exterior and iconic Super Safari decals, it represents one of the strongest resale propositions in the GCC due to the cult-like following for the Y61 generation. This specific vehicle has covered average mileage for its age, suggesting it has been used moderately on the region's highways rather than subjected to extreme desert abuse. For a buyer in the Middle East, this model stands out as the ultimate 'forever car'—a rugged, body-on-frame workhorse that handles extreme heat and demanding terrain better than almost anything in its class.

This Car vs Other 2022 Patrols

With just over 40,000 km, this Super Safari sits comfortably below the typical 25,000 km per year average seen in the UAE, making it a highly attractive prospect for collectors and enthusiasts. The classic white exterior is the most sought-after color for this model in the local market, ensuring it retains a higher percentage of its value compared to darker shades. While newer Y62 models focus on luxury, this Y61-based 2022 edition is preferred by those who prioritize mechanical simplicity and legendary durability.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari is the flagship of the Safari range, adding premium touches like tan leather upholstery with unique 'Super Safari' embossing and a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. It stands apart from the standard Safari trim with its signature 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, grey or gold body accents, and a built-in electric winch in the front bumper. Mechanically, it includes the essential rear differential lock as standard, a feature that is often optional on lower-tier variants.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC, the Super Safari's primary rival is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series; however, the Nissan offers a significantly more comfortable interior and better high-speed stability for long-distance cruising between emirates. Its massive 175-litre dual-tank system provides a cruising range that few modern SUVs can match, making it the preferred choice for cross-border desert expeditions. Unlike the more electronic-heavy Jeep Wrangler, the Patrol's inline-six engine is celebrated for its ability to run reliably in 50°C summer heat without overheating.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.8L VTC engine typically averages around 17.2 L/100km, reflecting its status as a high-displacement powerhouse suited for heavy-duty use. Maintenance is remarkably straightforward, with an extensive network of authorized Nissan service centers across every GCC country from Kuwait to Oman. The Super Safari enjoys some of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, often retaining over 75% of its value after three years due to its iconic status and the discontinuation of similar mechanical platforms.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the legendary 4.8L TB48DE engine, this SUV produces 451 Nm of torque, specifically tuned for low-end grunt needed to conquer deep sand dunes. It features a heavy-duty coil spring suspension and a selectable 4WD system that allows for shifting from 2WD to 4WD on the move. With a 215mm ground clearance and generous approach angles, it is purpose-built for the UAE's most challenging terrains while still maintaining a top speed of 190 km/h for highway overtaking.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all seven passengers cool during peak summer. The interior balances ruggedness with comfort, offering electric seat adjustments and a cooled center console box to keep beverages chilled on long drives. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this 2022 model, providing a quieter environment during high-speed highway commutes compared to older Safari generations.

Safety

Safety is managed through a robust suite of essentials including dual-front SRS airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) which is crucial for maintaining stability on loose gravel or sand. This trim also includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and cruise control, providing peace of mind during long desert highway stretches where maintaining a steady speed and monitoring tire health are vital for safety.

The bottom line

This 2022 Super Safari is the perfect choice for the enthusiast who wants a brand-new experience of a classic off-road icon, offering the best balance of modern tech and legendary reliability available in the GCC market today.
