Summary

This 2023 Ford Expedition XLT is an ideal family workhorse for the GCC, balancing low mileage with the robust performance of its 3.5L EcoBoost engine. As a three-year-old vehicle with just over 43,000 km, it has been driven significantly less than the typical 25,000 km annual average seen in the region. The XLT trim is highly sought after in the used market for providing essential family comforts like tri-zone climate control and eight-passenger seating without the steep depreciation of higher luxury trims. Finished in silver—a top-tier resale color in the Middle East due to its heat-reflective properties—it offers excellent value retention. For the GCC buyer, the standout factor here is the combination of genuine American-scale cabin space and a twin-turbocharged powertrain that handles long-distance highway hauls across the Emirates with ease.

This Car vs Other 2023 Expeditions

With 43,049 km on the odometer, this Expedition has averaged roughly 14,350 km per year, which is considerably lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km for large family SUVs. This lower usage means less wear on the suspension and cooling systems, both critical for long-term reliability in our climate. The silver exterior is a strategic choice for the region, as it is among the easiest colors to maintain and commands higher demand in the used market compared to darker shades.

XLT vs Lower Trims

The XLT trim provides a significant upgrade over the fleet-oriented XL by adding the essential third row, bringing total seating capacity to eight. It also introduces tri-zone electronic automatic climate control, a must-have for ensuring rear passengers stay cool during peak summer months. Additionally, this trim includes more USB charging ports throughout the cabin and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, making it much better suited for family road trips than the base model.

Expedition vs Segment Rivals

The Expedition leads rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Nissan Patrol in torque delivery, with its 3.5L twin-turbo engine offering 600 Nm for superior highway overtaking. While the Patrol is a desert icon, the Expedition offers a more road-refined 10-speed automatic transmission and better fuel efficiency on long cruises. Its cabin also features a more modern 12-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen as standard, providing a tech advantage over many base-level competitors in the full-size SUV segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L EcoBoost is designed to run efficiently on long highway stretches, though city fuel consumption reflects the stop-start nature of GCC traffic. Ford’s authorized service network is well-established across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with typical service intervals occurring every 10,000 km. While Japanese rivals often hold a slight edge in absolute percentage retention, the Expedition XLT remains a strong performer in the GCC used market due to its popularity with large families and its reputation for durable body-on-frame construction.

Performance & Capability

With 375 hp and 600 Nm of torque, this SUV provides effortless power for merging onto fast-moving UAE highways even when fully loaded with eight passengers. The All-Wheel Drive system ensures stability on gravel tracks or rain-slicked roads, while the 10-speed transmission keeps the engine in its optimal power band for smooth towing and cruising. For family weekends, the standard ground clearance allows for light off-road exploration and comfortable travel over diverse terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is built for maximum utility, featuring 8-passenger seating with a 60/40 PowerFold third row for easy cargo transitions. The tri-zone climate control is specifically engineered to handle extreme heat, ensuring that air reaches all three rows effectively. Passengers benefit from generous legroom in the second and third rows, while the cabin's insulation provides a quiet environment, shielding occupants from road noise and high external temperatures during long cross-country drives.

Safety

Safety is anchored by the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, which includes Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert—a vital tool for navigating multi-lane highways. It also features a Lane-Keeping System, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, and a Rear-View Camera to assist with parking this large vehicle. These active systems, combined with a robust airbag network, make it a top-tier choice for family-focused buyers in the region.

The bottom line

For a buyer seeking a modern, low-mileage 8-seater that excels in GCC highway comfort and resale practicality, this 2023 XLT represents a smarter financial move than buying new or choosing a high-mileage alternative.
