Summary

This 2024 Defender 90 S P300 represents a modern take on the iconic short-wheelbase 4x4, offering a sharp balance of daily maneuverability and serious utility. Finished in a high-demand black exterior, it holds a strong position in the GCC resale market where this color remains a perennial favorite. With its turbocharged 300 hp engine, it provides plenty of punch for overtaking on the E11 while remaining more fuel-efficient than its larger V8 siblings. This model stands out for its legendary off-road hardware packaged in a three-door body that is remarkably easy to park in tight city spaces like Downtown Dubai or West Bay. For a GCC buyer, this is the ideal vehicle for those who want the prestige and capability of a Land Rover without the bulk of a full-sized SUV.

This Car vs Other 2024 Defender 90s

With 49,113 km on the odometer, this Defender has seen active use that aligns with typical GCC annual driving patterns, where highway commutes between emirates are common. While the mileage is higher than a showroom-fresh example, it indicates the vehicle has been regularly cycled through its cooling and mechanical systems, a benefit in the local climate. The black exterior is a major asset here, as it is one of the most liquid colors for resale in the regional market.

S P300 vs Lower Trims

The S trim P300 brings significant tech upgrades over the base specifications, most notably the 400W Meridian Sound System and the Interactive Driver Display. It also includes 12-way heated semi-powered front seats and Grain leather facings, which provide a more premium cabin experience than the standard fabric offerings. Essential for the GCC, this trim includes the 3D Surround Camera and Blind Spot Assist as standard, providing critical visibility during high-speed highway lane changes.

Defender 90 vs Segment Rivals

The Defender 90 leads rivals like the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and Ford Bronco in terms of on-road refinement and towing capacity, which is rated at a massive 3,493 kg. Its permanent all-wheel-drive system and twin-speed transfer box offer a more sophisticated driving experience on paved roads compared to traditional body-on-frame competitors. Additionally, the Pivi Pro infotainment system is widely considered more intuitive and faster-responding than the tech found in many other dedicated off-roaders.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L turbocharged engine offers a combined fuel economy of approximately 10.1L/100km, making it a relatively economical choice for city driving in Riyadh or Dubai. Land Rover's authorized service network is extensive across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with flexible service intervals typically every 16,000 km or 12 months, though the car's onboard system may suggest earlier oil changes in extreme summer heat. As an American spec vehicle, buyers should verify the remaining balance of any third-party warranties, as factory Land Rover Middle East warranties typically only apply to GCC-spec cars.

Performance & Capability

Despite its compact size, the P300 engine delivers 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 191 km/h. It features a genuine twin-speed transfer box with low-range gearing, making it a formidable tool for weekend desert drives or navigating rocky wadis. The short wheelbase provides a superior breakover angle compared to the 110 or 130 models, ensuring it can crest dunes that longer vehicles might struggle with.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a 5-seat configuration that prioritizes front-row comfort, featuring two-zone climate control and a sliding panoramic roof that brightens the interior. The Grained leather seats are designed for durability against sand and dust while providing the support needed for long-distance road trips. Standard acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from the high-speed wind noise often encountered on open GCC highways, ensuring the Meridian audio system performs at its best.

Safety

This Defender is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including six airbags, Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist. The 3D Surround Camera and 360° Parking Aid are particularly useful in the GCC for navigating tight parking structures and detecting obstacles in off-road environments. Adaptive Cruise Control and Rear Traffic Monitor add an extra layer of safety for long desert hauls, while Wade Sensing technology provides confidence during the region's occasional heavy rain and flash floods.

The bottom line

This 2024 Defender 90 S is the perfect choice for the urban adventurer who needs a capable 4x4 that fits easily into a modern GCC lifestyle. It offers the latest Land Rover technology and iconic styling in a highly desirable color, making it a smart buy for those valuing both performance and future resale liquidty.
