Summary

This Nissan Patrol LE PLATINUM CITY stands as the definitive choice for those seeking a modern icon with an unmatched reputation in the GCC region. Despite being a 2024 model, its mileage reflects a vehicle that has been utilized for the long-distance highway cruises it was designed for, ensuring the engine is well-settled and ready for its next chapter. The deep black exterior is not only a symbol of prestige but also represents one of the strongest resale colors for this specific model in the local market. As the top-of-the-line trim, it offers a level of interior sophistication and technological integration that positions it well above the standard SUV segment. Choosing this vehicle means opting for a platform known for its legendary desert capability, immense cabin space, and a mechanical cooling system specifically engineered to thrive in the extreme heat of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It remains a smarter long-term investment than almost any European rival due to its slower depreciation and the immense demand for this specific 5.6L V8 configuration.

This Car vs Other 2024 Patrols

When looking at the 2024 market, this particular Nissan Patrol highlights a higher-than-average utilization for its age, which often indicates a history of highway-heavy commutes between emirates rather than taxing stop-and-go city traffic. In the GCC, an annual average of 25,000 km is common, so while this figure is elevated, it demonstrates the vehicle's reliable performance across the region's vast road networks. The black-on-black aesthetic is highly sought after in the secondary market, consistently commandings a quicker sale and better price retention than more unconventional colors. This car is an ideal match for a buyer who wants a current-generation flagship without the immediate depreciation hit of a zero-kilometer showroom model. Mechanically, these vehicles are built to withstand hundreds of thousands of kilometers, making this a young example in terms of its total lifecycle. It represents a significant opportunity to own the 'Hero of All Terrain' in its most modern form with a proven track record of reliability.

LE PLATINUM CITY vs Lower Trims

Stepping into the LE PLATINUM CITY trim elevates the ownership experience significantly over the XE or SE variants, primarily through its focus on luxury and advanced driving technology. This trim introduces the massive 22-inch alloy wheels that provide a more commanding stance and a sophisticated 13-speaker Bose premium sound system that is specifically tuned for the cabin’s acoustics. Unlike lower trims, you benefit from the Hydraulic Body Motion Control system, which drastically reduces body roll during cornering and improves ride comfort on uneven sand dunes or highway expansion joints. Inside, the inclusion of climate-controlled front seats with ventilation is an essential upgrade for the GCC climate, ensuring comfort during the peak summer months. You also get the full 360-degree Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, a feature that makes parking this large SUV in tight urban spaces effortless. The semi-aniline leather upholstery and open-pore wood finishes further distinguish this cabin as a true luxury environment rather than just a utility vehicle.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Nissan Patrol is frequently compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and the Chevrolet Tahoe, yet it maintains clear advantages in several key areas. Its 5.6L V8 engine offers a smooth, linear power delivery that many purists prefer over the turbocharged V6 setups found in the newest rivals. The Patrol also boasts one of the most generous fuel tank capacities in its class, totaling 140 litres with the sub-tank, which allows for immense range across the desert or on long-haul trips to Salalah or Riyadh without frequent fuel stops. Its cabin is widely regarded as having superior sound insulation, providing a quieter environment at high cruise speeds compared to the Tahoe. Additionally, the seating for eight is true-to-form, with a third row that offers more legitimate legroom and comfort for adult passengers than the Land Cruiser. The air conditioning system in the Nissan is also legendary across the Middle East for its rapid cooling performance, a critical factor during July and August.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a Nissan Patrol in the GCC is a lesson in value retention; it historically depreciates at a rate of only 8-10% annually, which is significantly better than European luxury SUVs in the same price bracket. Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.6L V8 typically averages around 14.5 L/100km, though this can improve on long highway runs at steady speeds. Authorized service centers for Nissan are the most abundant in the region, with comprehensive coverage from Al Masaood and Arabian Automobiles in the UAE to Petromin in Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are always available and affordable. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, involving standard oil changes and filter replacements that are reasonably priced. The reliability of the naturally aspirated V8 means fewer complex electronic or turbo-related repairs over time, contributing to a lower total cost of ownership over a five-year period. At the three-year mark, this model remains one of the easiest vehicles to trade in or sell privately due to its massive local fan base.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood lies the formidable 5.6L V8 engine, delivering 400 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque, which allows this 8-seater SUV to reach 100 km/h in approximately 6.6 seconds. This power is essential for safe overtaking on high-speed motorways and providing the necessary momentum for technical dune bashing. The sophisticated Four Wheel Drive system includes a dedicated 4-Low mode and a rear differential lock, making it a genuine off-road contender capable of tackling the toughest terrain in the Empty Quarter. The 7-speed automatic transmission is geared for both smooth city shifting and efficient highway cruising. With a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg, it is perfectly suited for hauling boats or horse trailers across the country. The ground clearance of 273mm ensures that obstacles, whether on a construction site or a mountain trail in Hatta, are cleared with ease. Different drive modes for Sand, On-road, Snow, and Rock allow the driver to calibrate the throttle and traction control to suit specific GCC environments instantly.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of the LE PLATINUM CITY is a haven of tranquility and space, designed to accommodate eight passengers across three spacious rows. The tri-zone climate control system is exceptionally powerful, featuring independent controls for the rear passengers to ensure everyone stays cool regardless of the external temperature. Large windows and an expansive sunroof provide an airy feel, while the thick acoustic glass keeps the roar of the V8 and wind noise to a minimum. Storage is plentiful, including the famous 'Cool Box' in the center console that can keep several water bottles chilled for the duration of a long drive. Technology is at the forefront with a dual-screen infotainment setup that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring seamless connectivity. The driver’s seat features memory functions and power adjustments, facilitating a perfect driving position for long road trips. Even with all eight seats in use, there is still respectable cargo space for groceries or light luggage, and the power-folding third row makes it easy to expand the boot for larger loads.

Safety

Safety is paramount in the LE PLATINUM CITY, which comes equipped with the Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite as standard. This includes Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, which is vital for busy urban environments like Dubai and Riyadh. For those long highway stretches, the Intelligent Cruise Control and Lane Intervention systems work together to reduce driver fatigue and keep the vehicle centered. Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert provide an extra layer of protection on fast-moving multi-lane roads where visibility can sometimes be a challenge. Specifically for the GCC, the Intelligent Forward Collision Warning can monitor two cars ahead, giving you earlier notice of potential hazards. The vehicle is built on a high-strength zone body construction with six airbags, ensuring maximum protection for all eight occupants in the event of an impact. This comprehensive safety package is often an optional extra on competitors but comes fully integrated here.

The bottom line

This 2024 Nissan Patrol is the perfect acquisition for a family man or an adventurer who values the peace of mind that comes with the region's most trusted SUV. It combines the ultimate luxury trim with the most reliable powertrain available, making it a highly logical purchase in the current used market.
