• 225 mm unladen ground clearance

Summary

This 2026 Toyota Fortuner SR5 represents the definitive choice for GCC buyers who require a legitimate off-roader with the everyday manners of a family SUV. While many rivals have moved to turbocharged four-cylinder engines, this V6 powertrain offers the naturally aspirated reliability that holds exceptional resale value in the UAE and Saudi markets. The white exterior is the most strategic choice for the region, naturally reflecting the intense summer heat while ensuring the easiest path to a high-value sale later. It bridges the gap between basic utility and executive comfort, making it a versatile tool for both the school run and weekend desert expeditions across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2026 Fortuners

As a brand-new 2026 model, this Fortuner offers the latest production refinements for the GCC market. Its zero-kilometer status provides a significant advantage over the typically high-mileage used stock found in the region, ensuring full mechanical longevity from day one. In the GCC used market, the white exterior is widely considered the strongest resale color due to its superior heat reflection and popularity among local buyers.

SR5 vs Lower Trims

The SR5 trim provides a critical performance upgrade over the base 2.7L variants by featuring the robust 4.0L V6 engine and a more sophisticated 4WD system. While lower trims are often rear-wheel drive or lack locking differentials, the SR5 includes essential off-road hardware like a low-range transfer case and enhanced stability control. It also adds premium touches such as 18-inch alloy wheels and an upgraded infotainment suite that significantly improves the daily driving experience.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads its segment by utilizing a heavy-duty body-on-frame chassis shared with the Hilux, giving it genuine off-road durability that monocoque rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe cannot match. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior touring range for long-distance desert highway drives between major GCC cities. Toyota’s air conditioning systems are widely regarded as the most effective for the extreme 45°C+ summer temperatures common in this region.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 averages around 9.6 km/L, which is balanced by its ability to run reliably on standard petrol grades found throughout the GCC. Toyota maintains the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, ensuring parts and maintenance are accessible from Dubai to Muscat. The Fortuner consistently records the lowest depreciation rates in its class, typically retaining 85-90% of its value after the first year of ownership.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V6 engine produces a verified 235 hp and 376 Nm of torque, providing the necessary low-end grunt for soft-sand driving and heavy towing. With 225 mm of unladen ground clearance and a dedicated low-range gearbox, this SUV is fully equipped for technical off-road trails and dune bashing. On the highway, the six-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth overtaking and comfortable cruising for long family road trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring a flexible layout with one-touch folding seats for easy access to the third row. High-output rear air conditioning vents are standard, ensuring all three rows remain cool during the peak of the Gulf summer. The SR5 interior prioritizes durability with high-quality materials that resist wear from sand and sunlight, paired with a modern 8-inch touchscreen for seamless smartphone integration.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive airbag system with a driver-side knee airbag for enhanced protection. The SR5 is equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which are particularly vital when navigating steep dunes or slippery gravel tracks. Rear parking sensors and a high-resolution camera provide added security during tight maneuvers in crowded city environments.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer who values mechanical longevity and off-road heritage, this V6-powered Fortuner SR5 is the most sensible long-term investment in the mid-size SUV segment today.
