Summary

This 2026 Toyota Fortuner EXR offers a compelling blend of daily utility and genuine off-road capability for the GCC driver. As a zero-year-old vehicle in the popular Silver Metallic finish, it sits in a high-demand category for resale while providing the latest features of the current generation. The EXR trim serves as a practical entry point into the Fortuner range, offering a reliable naturally aspirated powertrain that is significantly easier to maintain than complex European rivals. With seven seats and body-on-frame construction, it is a robust choice for families who need a vehicle that can handle both school runs and weekend desert escapes across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2026 Fortuners

With zero years of age and original factory specifications, this Silver Fortuner is a prime example of the 2026 model year. Silver remains one of the most resilient colors for resale in the GCC market, effectively masking desert dust and reflecting heat better than darker tones. In a market where annual mileage often averages 25,000 km, starting with a fresh 2026 model provides a significant head start on value retention.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim provides essential upgrades over basic export-spec models, including a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It adds key convenience features sought by local buyers, such as cruise control, a rear-view camera, and rear parking sensors. Crucially for the GCC climate, the EXR features a dedicated rear manual air conditioning system with ceiling-mounted vents to ensure all seven passengers remain cool during peak summer months.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Ford Everest or Hyundai Santa Fe, the Fortuner stands out with its rugged body-on-frame architecture, providing superior durability for off-road use. Its 80-litre fuel tank offers a longer cruising range for cross-country drives like Dubai to Salalah compared to smaller-tanked crossovers. While rivals may offer more soft-touch plastics, the Fortuner leads in mechanical simplicity and the sheer density of the Toyota service network across Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the UAE.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L engine is designed for long-term reliability in extreme heat, with real-world fuel consumption averaging approximately 10.4 km/L. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by one of the most extensive authorized center networks in the GCC, ensuring parts are always available. The Fortuner holds approximately 66% of its value after five years, significantly outperforming the 56% average for the SUV segment in the region.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with 279 mm of ground clearance, the Fortuner EXR is more than capable of handling gravel tracks and moderate dunes. The 164 hp powertrain is paired with a part-time 4WD system including a dedicated low-range transfer case for technical off-road situations. While the V6 offers more highway punch, the 2.7L 4-cylinder provides smooth, predictable power delivery through a 6-speed automatic transmission that is perfectly suited for urban traffic and steady highway cruising.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured for seven passengers with a versatile 2-3-2 seating layout and fabric upholstery that stays cooler than leather in the summer sun. Practicality is a priority, with dual USB-C fast-charging ports for rear passengers and a cooled glove box for beverages. The interior is designed to be hard-wearing, featuring durable materials that can withstand the sand and heavy use common in GCC family lifestyles.

Safety

Safety is managed by a suite of active systems including Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist Control to prevent rolling on inclines. This trim comes standard with three airbags (driver, passenger, and driver-knee) and ISOFIX child seat anchor points. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors as standard equipment provides essential assistance in tight urban parking environments.

The bottom line

For the practical GCC buyer who values long-term reliability and market-leading resale value, this 2026 Fortuner EXR is the definitive choice for a family SUV that is ready for both the city and the sand.
