Is Ferrari working on a hardcore 488?

With the recent announcement of the Huracan Performance and McLaren 720S currently in the works, is there a hardcore 488 similar to the 458 Speciale in the pipeline?

Recent reports suggest that there is indeed a hardcore 488 in development. However, the Italian brand hasn’t spoken a work of the project.

No name has been given to the vehicle as of yet, but it is expected to shift with an increase of power with speculation tagging the 3.9-litre V8 turbocharged motor to pump out 700 horses.

Hardcore 488 models will also boast unique flair added to the vehicle’s exterior that will aid the sports car to glide through the air and add a touch of aggression to the overall package. It’s also expected to shed weight with some estimating a weight loss of at least 90 kilos.

As with previous models, Ferrari won’t be adding a massive rear spoiler to aid downforce as that would only add weight.

The weight loss could be aided by the use of carbon fibre and removing unnecessary components from the interior much like the brand did with the 458 Speciale.

Speaking of which, the previous Speciale models were built to limited numbers and it would come as a shock if the hardcore 488 didn’t follow suit.

Sources also indicate that the hardcore 488 could debut as early as this year with some claiming we’ll catch a glimpse fo the model in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We’ll just have to wait and see about that.
