Forget the G500 4×4² and the 6×6, check out the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4²

As impressive as the Mercedes G500 4×4² and 6×6 are, Mercedes have another trick up their sleeve with the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4². It may not be as large as those two, but it’s certainly competent off the tarmac.

Based on the E-Class Estate, engineers at the Mercedes workshop have removed the stock axles and fitted a new set of special portal axles which increase the vehicles ride height to 406 mm. With a bespoke set of alloys covered in trail ready rubber, the track has been widened by 203 mm. The larger than life estate also features flared wheel arches and a custom set of stickers adorning each side.

Although it has the “can go anywhere look”, the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² makes do without a low range gearbox and locking differentials found in both the 6×6 and G500 4×4².

Power comes courtesy of a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 pushing out 328 horsepower.

Will the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² hit the production line?

As of writing, there are no known plans to put the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² into production yet. With enough demand, we’re pretty sure Mercedes could consider a short run. We are aware one has actually been built for a select client sometime last year.

What’s next for the German icon to lift off the ground? An A-Class perhaps? Or maybe a GLA-Class or even a V-Class. Mercedes do have a wide range to choose from.
