Mercedes AMG GT R Roadster drops before Geneva

With the Geneva Motor Show just around the corner, Mercedes just couldn’t wait to show the world the AMG GT R Roadster.

Based on the hardcore AMG GT R, the Roadster gets a triple-layer fabric retractable roof comprised of lightweight materials.

The drop-top also has bright yellow brake calipers, 19-/20-inch forged wheels and gloss black mirror caps.

Moving to the cabin, drivers can grip tight an Alcantara wrapped sports steering wheel and access a number of applications via the 10.25-inch infotainment system.

Black Nappa leather AMG Performance seats are standard.

As with coupe version, the AMG GT R Roadster makes do with a BiTurbo V8 petrol engine rated at 577 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Connected to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, the cabriolet rockets to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 317 km/h.

While most convertibles are catered towards cruising, the AMG GT R Roadster is not built for cruising. As with the coupe GT R, the Roadster is built for both track and road use.

As standard, the model gets dynamic transmission and engine mounts, a carbon fibre torque tube and a titanium exhaust.

Track focused suspension and active rear-wheel steering are also stock.

Production will be capped at 750 units worldwide, and each one will feature a special numbered plaque on the centre console. Pricing has not yet been published.
