Tesla is set to launch a new six-seater version of its popular Model Y SUV in China. The Model Y L will feature an extended wheelbase, more space, and improved motor power. It will officially go on sale in autumn 2025.

What Are the Key Specs of the Tesla Model Y L?

According to a sales license filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Model Y L is a larger variant of the standard Model Y. It includes three rows of seating, increasing capacity to six passengers.

The Model Y L measures:

• Length: 4,976 mm
• Width: 1,920 mm
• Height: 1,668 mm
• Wheelbase: 3,040 mm (150 mm longer than the standard version)

The curb weight is 2,088 kg, up from 1,992 kg in the standard 5-seater version.

It uses ternary NMC batteries supplied by LG and features dual motors:

• Front motor: 142 kW
• Rear motor: 198 kW
• Combined power: 340 kW (456 hp)
• Top speed: 201 km/h

In 2024, the Tesla Model Y was Tesla’s top-selling model in China, with 480,309 units sold, accounting for 74.6% of Tesla’s sales in the country. However, in the first half of 2025, sales declined to 171,491 units, a 17.5% decrease year-on-year, even after the release of the facelifted Juniper version.

What Cars Will Compete With the Model Y L?

The new Model Y will continue to rival the Rivian R1S, Lucid Gravity, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW iX3, Volkswagen ID.4, BYD Sealion 7, Audi Q4 e-tron, Xpeng G6, and Nissan Ariya; among others. Industry analysts expect the Model Y L to be priced around 300,000 yuan (approx. AED 150,000).

Although there is no official launch date for the Model Y L in the UAE, the new model is expected to arrive in the country through dealer imports. This means customers in the UAE may be able to purchase the vehicle before any regional release is confirmed by Tesla. Import dealers often source new Tesla models from international markets like China, allowing early access to vehicles not yet available through official Tesla channels in the UAE.
