Summary

This 2006 Range Rover Supercharged represents a significant era of Land Rover engineering, featuring the highly regarded 4.2L Jaguar-derived V8 that many enthusiasts prefer for its relative mechanical simplicity compared to later 5.0L units. With 196,000 km on the odometer, this GCC-spec example has covered roughly 10,000 km per year—significantly below the regional average of 25,000 km—making it a well-preserved find for its age. The timeless black-on-black color combination remains the most sought-after pairing in the UAE market, ensuring strong interest and easier resale later. As a flagship trim, it balances genuine off-road capability with an interior that still feels premium, making it an ideal choice for a collector or an enthusiast looking for a high-spec L322. The 2006 model year is particularly desirable as it introduced the upgraded interior electronics and the smoother 6-speed ZF gearbox.

This Car vs Other 2006 Range Rovers

While many Range Rovers of this vintage in the GCC have surpassed the 250,000 km mark due to frequent cross-emirate travel, this vehicle's 196,000 km indicates more conservative city-based use. The black exterior is the highest-performing resale color in the regional used market, consistently holding a value premium over lighter shades or non-metallic finishes. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the common air conditioning and cooling system issues often found in imported North American or European models when exposed to extreme desert heat.

SUPERCHARGED vs Lower Trims

The Supercharged trim was the performance pinnacle for 2006, adding a 100 hp boost over the naturally aspirated 4.4L HSE model. Beyond the engine, it features a Brembo high-performance braking system and the premium 710-watt Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio suite as standard, which was only an expensive option on lower trims. It also includes exclusive styling cues like the honeycomb mesh grille and side vents that distinguish it from the standard HSE.

Range Rover vs Segment Rivals

In the mid-2000s SUV market, the Range Rover led the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes-Benz G-Class in terms of interior refinement and daily ride comfort thanks to its sophisticated air suspension. While the Cayenne focused on track-like handling, the Range Rover offered a 104.5-litre fuel tank, giving it superior range for long-distance highway drives between Dubai and Riyadh. Its split-tailgate design and command seating position provide a level of visibility and practicality that rivals in this segment still struggle to match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.2L Supercharged V8 typically averages around 15.9 L/100km, though this can rise in the stop-start traffic of major GCC cities. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and the UAE benefits from a vast network of both authorized centers and specialized independent garages familiar with the L322 platform. While European luxury SUVs depreciate more than Japanese rivals, the Supercharged L322 has reached a value floor, with well-maintained GCC examples now seeing stabilization in pricing as they transition into modern classic status.

Performance & Capability

The supercharged 4.2L V8 delivers 400 hp and 550 Nm of torque, enabling a top speed of 225 km/h, which is more than sufficient for effortless highway overtaking. Its legendary off-road capability is supported by a 3100 kg gross vehicle weight and a sophisticated Terrain Response system that adjusts the electronic air suspension and traction settings. With a maximum ground clearance of approximately 280 mm in off-road mode, it remains one of the few luxury vehicles truly capable of tackling weekend desert excursions.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring multi-way power-adjustable leather seats that are specifically cushioned for extended drives. The dual-zone climate control system is engineered for the GCC, providing powerful cooling that remains effective even during peak summer temperatures. Cabin insulation is a standout feature, with thick acoustic glass effectively muting road noise during high-speed highway cruising across the emirates.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes eight airbags and a comprehensive suite of stability controls, including Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC). The Supercharged trim's Brembo brakes offer superior fade resistance compared to the standard units, which is a critical safety advantage during high-speed highway driving. Xenon HID headlights with self-leveling are standard, providing excellent visibility for nighttime desert road travel.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the prestige and power of a flagship Range Rover without the complexity of later models, this well-maintained, lower-mileage GCC Supercharged represents an excellent value-to-performance ratio in the current market.
