Nissan Patrol SE T1 Facelift 2021

Highlights

• 317 hp from a 5.6L V8
• 140-litre fuel tank standard
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This Nissan Patrol is a robust example of the Y62 generation, offering the rare combination of an eight-cylinder powertrain with an eight-seat cabin. In the GCC market, the white exterior is a strategic choice as it maintains the highest resale demand while effectively reflecting the region's intense summer heat. While it has covered 227,000 km, this mileage is consistent with the highway-heavy driving patterns typical of a 13-year-old vehicle in this region. This model remains a standout for its sheer road presence and mechanical simplicity compared to newer, more complex turbocharged rivals. For a GCC owner, the unmatched availability of parts and expert technicians in every corner of the UAE and Saudi Arabia makes this a highly practical long-term investment.

This Car vs Other 2013 Patrols

With a vehicle age of 13 years and 227,000 km, this Patrol has averaged approximately 17,500 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. It presents a more attractive maintenance profile than high-mileage examples that often exceed 300,000 km by this stage. The white paintwork is a major advantage for local resale, consistently fetching a premium over darker shades in the used market.

SE T1 vs Lower Trims

The SE T1 trim serves as a vital bridge in the lineup, offering the powerful 5.6L V8 engine that is unavailable on the entry-level XE V6. It upgrades the driving experience with 18-inch alloy wheels and an improved infotainment interface compared to base models. Crucially for the GCC, it includes a more robust climate control system designed to quickly cool the large eight-passenger cabin during peak summer months.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser and Chevrolet Tahoe, the Patrol leads with its massive 140-litre fuel tank, providing superior cruising range for long-distance drives between the Emirates. Its independent rear suspension offers a more composed highway ride than the live-axle setups found in many American rivals. Additionally, the Patrol's cooling box and specialized AC vents are widely regarded as some of the most effective in the segment for desert conditions.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.6L V8 engine is engineered for durability, typically requiring minor servicing every 10,000 km. While fuel consumption reflects its displacement, the 140-litre tank minimizes frequent stops during cross-border travel. Authorized service centers are omnipresent across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, ensuring low labor costs and high parts availability. As the 'National Car' of the region, the Patrol experiences much lower annual depreciation than European luxury SUVs, typically retaining value at a rate comparable only to the Land Cruiser.

Performance & Capability

Generating 317 hp and substantial low-end torque, this V8 is built for effortless highway overtaking and heavy-duty towing of up to 3,500 kg. The All-Wheel Drive system features a low-range transfer case and selectable modes, making it a legitimate tool for weekend desert excursions. With 283 mm of ground clearance, it easily clears standard off-road obstacles that would challenge smaller crossovers. This powertrain is particularly favored in the GCC for its ability to maintain high cruising speeds with a full load of eight passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a true 8-seater, featuring a flexible layout that accommodates large families with ease. Dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents ensures every passenger stays comfortable, even when external temperatures exceed 45°C. The interior is well-insulated from road and wind noise, a necessity for the high-speed highway commutes common in Dubai and Riyadh. Generous legroom in the second row makes it a favorite for long-distance road trips.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a comprehensive airbag system with front, side, and curtain coverage for all rows. It is equipped with Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Stability Control, which are vital for maintaining composure on both sandy tracks and fast-moving multi-lane highways. Rear parking sensors are standard, providing essential assistance when navigating this large SUV through tight city parking spaces.

The bottom line

This 13-year-old Patrol is the ideal choice for a family or desert enthusiast looking for V8 power and legendary GCC reliability without the premium price of a newer model. Its white-on-beige configuration and GCC-specific cooling make it a turnkey solution for immediate local use.
