Toyota Prado GXR

Highlights

• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• 220 mm ground clearance standard
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This GCC-spec Prado represents a rare opportunity for buyers seeking the agility of a three-door body style with exceptionally low mileage for its age. While most decade-old SUVs in the region have crossed the six-figure mark, this example has been driven significantly less than the 25,000 km annual GCC average. The White exterior is the most sought-after resale color in the UAE, providing both heat reflection and strong value protection. As a GXR trim, it strikes a perfect balance between Toyota's legendary mechanical durability and essential cabin comforts. This is a reliable, go-anywhere workhorse that is as comfortable on a weekend desert trip as it is navigating tight city parking.

This Car vs Other 2016 Prados

With just 55,312 km on the odometer, this 10-year-old Prado has covered less than 6,000 km per year, making it one of the lowest-mileage examples available in the GCC market. In a region where annual highway use typically averages 25,000 km, this vehicle offers a massive mechanical advantage to its next owner. The white exterior further enhances its appeal, as it remains the highest-demand color for resale in the local market.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides significant upgrades over the entry-level EXR, including standard roof rails and a more refined tri-zone climate control system, which is essential for maintaining cabin comfort during intense GCC summers. It also features an upgraded infotainment unit and enhanced safety equipment, offering a more premium daily driving experience without sacrificing the simplicity that makes the 2.7L powertrain so reliable.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Pathfinder offer larger V6 engines as standard, the Prado leads the segment in long-term reliability and authorized service availability across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its 220 mm ground clearance and short-wheelbase 3-door configuration provide superior breakover angles compared to five-door competitors, making it a favorite for weekend desert enthusiasts.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L engine is known for its bulletproof reliability and lower maintenance costs compared to the larger V6. Expect real-world fuel consumption of approximately 11.7 L/100km in combined driving, though stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh may see this rise. Toyota's extensive authorized service network ensures parts are readily available in every GCC country, supporting a depreciation rate that is significantly lower than European luxury rivals.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with 220 mm of ground clearance and a dedicated All Wheel Drive system, this Prado is built for genuine off-road exploration. The 160 hp petrol engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission introduced for the 2016 model year, offering smoother highway cruising than earlier versions. Its short wheelbase makes it exceptionally nimble for both dune driving and navigating busy metropolitan traffic.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring a powerful air conditioning system with dedicated vents for rear passengers. The GXR trim includes a cooled center console, perfect for keeping beverages chilled during long desert drives. The 3-door layout offers a surprisingly spacious front cabin while maintaining a compact footprint for city maneuvering.

Safety

Safety is managed by a suite of active and passive systems, including Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help maintain traction on sandy or slippery surfaces. This GXR trim includes a comprehensive airbag system and rear parking sensors, providing confidence during both high-speed highway travel and tight urban parking.

The bottom line

This is the ideal purchase for a GCC buyer who values low-mileage reliability and high resale potential over raw power. Its rare 3-door configuration and documented GCC spec make it a standout choice for those needing a durable daily driver that can handle a desert weekend.
