Summary

This Nissan Patrol is a compelling buy for those seeking a full-size SUV that balances daily utility with significant cabin luxury. As an SE Platinum City trim, it offers premium features typically reserved for the V8 models, but with a more fuel-efficient V6 engine that is well-suited for city commuting. The black exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the GCC, ensuring strong resale demand and a timeless presence on the road. With eight seats and a robust service network across the region, it remains the definitive choice for family logistics and cross-border travel. Its combination of rugged durability and high-end tech makes it a versatile companion for the unique driving landscape of the UAE.

This Car vs Other 2017 Patrols

With 160,000 km, this vehicle sits near the expected mileage for a 2017 model in the GCC, where 20,000 to 25,000 km per year is common due to frequent highway travel between emirates. The black paint is a high-demand resale color in this market, holding its value better than more niche shades. While many listings from this year are lower SE or XE trims, this high-spec Platinum City variant offers a significantly more refined interior experience.

SE PLATINUM CITY vs Lower Trims

The SE Platinum City trim is the highest configuration available for the V6 engine, adding 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels and a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system that the SE T2 lacks. Inside, it swaps standard materials for quilted leather upholstery and adds climate-controlled ventilated front seats, which are essential for GCC summers. It also includes the 360° Around View Monitor, providing a bird's-eye perspective that makes parking this large SUV in tight city spaces much simpler.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 4.0L, the Patrol offers a more luxurious cabin atmosphere with higher-quality soft-touch materials and a more modern infotainment suite. It leads in standard features for the price, providing technologies like the Around View Monitor and ventilated seats that are often optional or reserved for higher-priced rivals. Additionally, the Patrol’s 140-liter fuel tank is specifically designed for the long desert highway stretches common in the region.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 offers a combined fuel consumption of approximately 11.8L/100km, providing a slight efficiency advantage over the V8 variant during stop-start city traffic. As one of the most popular vehicles in the UAE, the Patrol benefits from an extensive authorized service network and excellent parts availability, keeping long-term maintenance costs predictable. Resale value for GCC-spec Patrols remains exceptionally high, typically retaining 60-70% of value after three years, outperformed only by the Land Cruiser in this segment.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 275 hp V6 engine paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, this SUV is tuned for smooth highway cruising and effortless overtaking. With a standard ground clearance of 272 mm and a specialized low-range transfer case, it is fully capable of handling weekend desert excursions and soft sand dunes. The all-wheel-drive system provides consistent stability whether navigating wet city roads or gravel tracks in the Northern Emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to accommodate eight passengers across three rows, with dedicated rear AC vents and a three-zone climate control system that ensures rapid cooling even in 45°C heat. Acoustic glass helps maintain a quiet environment, shielding passengers from road noise during long-distance drives. The inclusion of a cooled center console keeps beverages cold, a small but significant luxury during the summer months in the Gulf.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a comprehensive airbag system, ABS, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. The 360° Around View Monitor and front and rear parking sensors provide critical assistance in urban environments. For highway safety, it features Cruise Control and Tire Pressure Monitoring, while Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) ensures the SUV remains composed during sudden maneuvers on sandy or uneven surfaces.

The bottom line

This 2017 Patrol SE Platinum City is the ideal choice for a family buyer who wants the premium luxury of a top-tier SUV with the more practical running costs of a V6 engine. It represents a balanced opportunity to own a GCC icon in a prime resale color with a high level of standard equipment.
