Summary

This 2018 Ford Explorer XLT is a quintessential family SUV, balancing robust 6-cylinder power with a highly practical seven-seat layout. Having covered just over 90,000 km, it sits comfortably below the expected mileage for a vehicle of its age in the GCC, where long-distance commuting is the norm. The crisp white exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, offering the best heat reflection and the strongest resale potential in the local market. As an XLT trim, it provides significant comfort upgrades over the base model, making it a versatile choice for both school runs in the city and weekend road trips across the Emirates. For any buyer prioritizing a GCC-spec vehicle with a proven track record for durability and cabin space, this Explorer remains a standout contender.

This Car vs Other 2018 Explorers

With 90,600 km on the odometer, this Explorer has averaged approximately 15,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average seen in the GCC. This lower-than-average usage translates to less mechanical wear compared to most 2018 models currently on the market. Furthermore, the white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, ensuring better thermal management and a faster turnaround when you eventually decide to sell.

XLT vs Lower Trims

Choosing the XLT over the base trim secures essential upgrades that enhance daily driving in the GCC, including intelligent access with push-button start and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. It also adds premium touches like the LED signature lighting and rear parking sensors, which are not standard on the base model. These features, combined with the upgraded braking system, offer a more refined and convenient experience for family logistics.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer often leads rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander in terms of cargo versatility, featuring a deep-well boot area that is ideal for taller items even with the third row in use. Its 3.5L V6 provides a smooth, linear power delivery that is better suited for high-speed highway overtaking than many smaller-displacement turbocharged competitors. Additionally, Ford's Terrain Management System offers more intuitive off-road presets for those occasional weekend trips to the gravel plains.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 typically averages around 11.2 L/100km, which is efficient for a seven-seater on long highway stretches between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a wide authorized service network across the UAE and neighboring countries, ensuring parts are always readily available. The Explorer maintains a steady depreciation curve, benefiting from its high popularity and the strong demand for American SUVs in the local used market.

Performance & Capability

The 290 hp V6 engine provides reliable performance, capable of reaching 100 km/h in approximately 9 seconds—plenty of power for a vehicle of this size. The intelligent Four-Wheel Drive system includes a dedicated dial for sand, mud, or grass, making it remarkably capable for light desert excursions or navigating rainy coastal roads. Its unibody construction ensures car-like handling and stability during long cross-country drives, avoiding the 'bouncy' feel often associated with truck-based SUVs.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful air conditioning system with dedicated vents for all three rows to keep every passenger cool during peak summer. The seven-seat configuration is highly flexible, with third-row seats that fold completely flat into the floor to create a cavernous cargo area. Acoustic glass and improved insulation help keep the interior quiet, shielding occupants from road noise and the harsh outdoor environment.

Safety

Safety is a priority in this XLT trim, which comes standard with a comprehensive airbag system and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. Useful features for GCC driving include blind-spot mirrors and rear parking sensors to assist in tight urban parking. The vehicle's SOS Post-Crash Alert System and MyKey technology also provide extra peace of mind for families, ensuring a high level of protection on both busy city highways and open desert roads.

The bottom line

For a GCC family seeking a low-mileage, reliable seven-seater in the most desirable color, this Explorer XLT represents a secure and practical investment in today's market.
