Highlights

• 2,200 kg braked towing capacity
• Eight seats with standard 3.8-litre V6 engine
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2021 Hyundai Palisade is a compelling family choice in the GCC market, offering the preferred 3.8L V6 engine and All-Wheel Drive for confidence on any terrain. While the mileage is typical for a three-year-old family SUV in this region, the grey exterior remains a highly desirable resale color that holds up well against the local sun and dust. As a Korean-spec model, it provides a high level of interior refinement and comfort features often sought after by experienced local buyers. The Palisade has quickly established itself as a segment leader for cabin space, making it a smarter alternative to more expensive luxury rivals. For the GCC owner, the vast availability of parts and specialized service centers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures long-term peace of mind.

This Car vs Other 2021 Palisades

With 93,000 km on the odometer, this Palisade has been driven an average of 31,000 km per year, which is slightly above the global average but common for highway-commuter vehicles in the GCC. The grey finish is an excellent practical choice for the region, offering better heat reflection than black while maintaining a higher resale value than non-metallic colors. Being a 2021 model, it benefits from the updated tech and refinement found in the earlier production years of this generation.

COMFORT vs Lower Trims

The Comfort trim bridges the gap between the base utility and full-luxury variants, adding essential daily conveniences that GCC buyers value, such as a more advanced infotainment interface and improved cabin materials. It retains the durable fabric or synthetic seating that many local owners prefer for its ability to stay cool in 45°C+ summer heat compared to darker leather. You also benefit from the full 8-seat configuration, which is a significant upgrade for large families over the seven-seat layouts found in some sportier trims.

Palisade vs Segment Rivals

The Palisade is frequently cross-shoppped with the Kia Telluride and Ford Explorer, but it leads the pack in terms of pure cabin ergonomics and storage solutions. Its 71-litre fuel tank provides the necessary range for long-distance desert highway drives between Dubai and Riyadh. Unlike some rivals that struggle with third-row space, the Palisade offers a genuinely usable rear bench that can accommodate adults comfortably during family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.8L V6 typically averages around 10.5 to 11.0 L/100km in combined GCC driving conditions, with the 8-speed automatic keeping revs low on the highway. Hyundai's service network is one of the strongest in the region, with 10,000 km service intervals that are affordable and easy to schedule at authorized centers in any major GCC city. Historically, the Palisade has shown strong value retention, depreciating at a rate of approximately 10-12% annually, which is superior to many European equivalents in the same size category.

Performance & Capability

The 291 hp V6 engine provides smooth, linear power that is ideal for overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. With its HTRAC All-Wheel Drive system and a 2,200 kg braked towing capacity, this SUV is well-equipped for weekend excursions, whether towing a boat to the coast or navigating gravel tracks in the northern emirates. The drive mode selector allows you to optimize the powertrain for different surfaces, ensuring stability and grip on sand-dusted roads.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Palisade focuses on keeping all eight passengers comfortable during the intense GCC summer with dedicated rear climate vents and a powerful air conditioning system. The cabin is well-insulated from exterior wind and road noise, making long inter-city drives remarkably quiet. Multiple USB ports throughout the cabin and versatile folding seats make it a practical hub for technology-heavy families.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this trim includes a robust suite of airbags and essential electronic aids like Traction Control and Stability Control, which are vital for maintaining composure on varied road surfaces. The Palisade’s high driving position and large greenhouse provide excellent visibility for navigating heavy city traffic. It also features ISOFIX anchors in both the second and third rows, ensuring maximum safety for the youngest passengers.

The bottom line

This Palisade is the ideal choice for a large family looking for a reliable, high-capacity SUV with a proven V6 powertrain and excellent regional support. It represents a balanced opportunity to own a modern flagship SUV that is as capable on the highway as it is at the weekend campsite.
