Summary

This 2022 Hyundai Palisade SMART represents the perfect middle ground for families in the GCC who require a high-capacity SUV without the inflated price tag of luxury brands. Its white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, ensuring maximum heat reflection during the summer months and the highest possible resale value later on. With 107,079 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven exactly as intended for a long-distance cruiser in the UAE, primarily on highways where the engine and transmission suffer the least wear. The SMART trim offers the essential technology that GCC drivers look for, including all-wheel drive for added stability on varied road surfaces. Choosing a GCC-spec model like this ensures you have an air conditioning system specifically designed for the desert climate and a vehicle that is fully supported by service centers across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia. It stands out in the segment by offering a more premium interior feel than its rivals while maintaining the legendary reliability that keeps Hyundai owners coming back.

This Car vs Other 2022 Palisades

When comparing this specific 2022 Hyundai Palisade to others on the market, the mileage of 107,079 km is exactly where you would expect a well-utilized family SUV in the UAE to be after two years. While global averages might suggest this is high, in a region where daily commutes between Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi are common, this mileage indicates the vehicle was utilized for stable, long-distance highway trips rather than stressful, stop-and-go city traffic. The white exterior color is a massive advantage here; not only does it help keep the cabin significantly cooler under the intense GCC sun by reflecting heat, but it is also the easiest color to maintain and the most preferred by used car buyers in the secondary market. This variant is a GCC-spec vehicle, which is a critical distinction over imported American or Korean specs that often face cooling issues and lack manufacturer-backed support in local service centers. Buying this unit means you are getting a car that has already proven its mechanical durability in the local environment.

SMART vs Lower Trims

Stepping into the SMART trim level provides a significant upgrade in both convenience and perceived luxury compared to the base levels. One of the most critical additions for the GCC climate is the improved cabin management system, which ensures that all three rows receive adequate cooling even during midday heat. The SMART trim often includes premium aesthetic touches like upgraded wheels and grille finishes that give the SUV a more sophisticated road presence. Inside, you benefit from a much more advanced infotainment setup and better upholstery materials that are designed to withstand the wear and tear of a seven-passenger household. Safety is also enhanced in this trim, offering driver-assist features that are frequently omitted in fleet-oriented base models. For the driver, the inclusion of more sophisticated seat adjustments and a higher-quality audio system makes those long hauls between emirates far more enjoyable. It is the trim that delivers the most 'luxury per dirham' without the unnecessary cost of the top-tier leather options that can sometimes be difficult to maintain in the heat.

Palisade vs Segment Rivals

The Hyundai Palisade competes directly with stalwarts like the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, and Toyota Highlander. In this specific segment, the Palisade leads the pack when it comes to third-row usability, offering more genuine legroom for adults in the back than many American rivals. While the Highlander is known for its efficiency, the Palisade's 3.5L V6 provides a much smoother power delivery and a more stable feel at high cruising speeds on the E11 or E311 highways. Compared to the Ford Explorer, the Hyundai feels significantly more modern inside, with a digital-focused cockpit and button-actuated transmission that frees up considerable space in the center console for storage. The all-wheel-drive system in the Palisade is also highly regarded for its tarmac stability, providing a more confident grip during the occasional rain-slicked roads or gravel tracks leading to weekend farmhouses. It effectively bridges the gap between a standard family hauler and a premium cruiser, offering a level of interior refinement that its Japanese and American competitors often charge a significant premium to match.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a 3.5L V6 Palisade in the GCC is surprisingly economical given its size. Real-world fuel consumption typically hovers around 10-11 L/100km on the highway, while city driving in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic will see that figure rise slightly. The 71-liter fuel tank is well-sized for the region, allowing for long stretches between refills on cross-country trips. Maintenance is one of the strongest selling points for this model; Hyundai has one of the most extensive and affordable service networks in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, with parts being readily available at competitive price points. In terms of resale, the Palisade has shocked the market by holding its value better than almost any other non-Japanese SUV in its class. You can expect a depreciation rate of only about 10-12% annually, which is remarkably low. By the three-year mark, a GCC-spec Palisade in white remains a high-demand item, ensuring that when it comes time for you to upgrade, your initial investment is well-protected.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is its 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine, which produces roughly 273 horsepower. This is the ideal powertrain for the GCC, as it provides the necessary muscle for highway overtaking at 120 km/h even when the car is fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in a respectable 7.5 to 8.0 seconds, which is plenty of pep for a vehicle of this footprint. While it is not a dedicated dune basher like the Land Cruiser, the All Wheel Drive (AWD) system is exceptionally capable on sand tracks, gravel roads, and for light beach-side parking during weekend family outings. The ground clearance is ample for navigating high speed bumps and uneven urban terrain without worry. The automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness rather than aggression, ensuring that gear changes are almost imperceptible during long-distance road trips. For those who need to tow a small boat or a jet ski trailer to the coast, the Palisade offers a robust towing capacity that segment rivals often struggle to match without overheating.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Palisade is designed to be a sanctuary from the outside environment. The 7-seat configuration provides a spacious 'walk-through' layout that makes accessing the third row incredibly easy for children and adults alike. One of the most impressive features for GCC owners is the high-output triple-zone climate control system; it is engineered to drop the cabin temperature from 50°C to a comfortable level in minutes, with dedicated vents for the second and third rows to prevent any 'hot spots'. The cabin insulation is top-tier, effectively muting wind noise even at 140 km/h, which is a common speed on major regional motorways. Storage is plentiful, with a massive under-console area and numerous cup holders distributed throughout all three rows. The white exterior is complemented by a cabin that feels airy and light, avoiding the overly dark and 'closed-in' feeling found in many smaller SUVs. Whether you are doing the daily school run or a cross-border drive to Oman, the seat ergonomics ensure you arrive feeling fresh and without the fatigue often associated with long drives.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the 2022 Palisade, which carries a 5-Star NCAP rating, providing peace of mind for family-oriented buyers. This SMART trim is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety tech including multiple airbags that protect all three rows. Standard features often include Blind-Spot Collision Warning, which is vital on the multi-lane highways of the UAE where fast-moving vehicles can appear suddenly. You also have Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance, perfect for backing out of tight parking spots in crowded malls like Dubai Mall or Yas Mall. The electronic stability control and traction management systems are calibrated to handle the unique challenges of the region, such as sudden sand drifts on the road or the slippery conditions of the first rain after a long dry spell. Hyundai’s commitment to safety means that even in this mid-tier trim, you are getting structural integrity and active systems that many competitors only offer as expensive packages.

The bottom line

For the GCC family that refuses to compromise on space or safety, this 2022 Palisade SMART is the smartest buy on the market. It offers the high-demand GCC spec and the most resilient resale color in a package that has been perfectly broken in for its next long-term owner.
