2016 BMW Z4 makes the end of an era

As you should know by now, BMW and Toyota are joining forces to create not just one but two coupe or convertible models or both as a replacement for the outgoing BMW Z4 in the German stable. Whereas Toyota’s version could serve as a spiritual successor to the epic Toyota Supra. Both of these models are expected a few years down the line, leaving the Z4 to continue production until then.

However, recent reports suggest otherwise with the arrow firmly pointed at the last Z4 rolling off the production line on the 22nd of August 2016. If this is the case, rivals including the Audi TT, Porsche 718 Boxster and Mercedes-Benz SLC are free to battle for segment supremacy until BMW, and Toyota come forward.

Pictured is the very model that marks the end. Coated in a bright shade of Valencia Orange and fitted with a 3-litre straight six powering the rear wheels. With 340 horsepower on tap, 0-100 is achieved in 4.8 seconds and the Z4 can sail to a top speed of 250 km/h.

After seven years of production, it’s successor is scheduled to make an appearance later next in concept form and production of a road-worthy model should being early 2018 in Austria. The exact facility will be used to piece the Supra successor together as well.

While specifications of Z5 is unknown, many speculate that a hybrid powertrain will make an appearance as will an all-wheel drive platform to offer increased traction.
