AMG GT Black Series confirmed for 2020

The entire world has been anticipating the next entry of the Black Series from Mercedes. It’s been far too long, but at long last, AMG Boss Tobias Moers has provided a solid answer for the anticipated AMG GT Black Series.

Conversing with journalists during the recent Geneva Motor Show Moers explained “There is still a GT variant left. We are on a journey, we started the journey for the Black Series.” He was also asked about a launch window which is said to be 2020 as he hinted at it being an “Interesting year.” He could also be referring to the Dubai Expo 2020 as well.

Once 2020 rolls in, the AMG GT will be six years old which leads us to believe the AMG GT Black Series will serve as a last hurrah for the sports car before a new model is introduced.

What to expect from the AMG GT Black Series

As with previous Black series models, we can look forward to aerodynamic tweaks, upgraded suspension, steering and brakes and a slight weight reduction with black highlights and signature badging. Inside, flashes of carbon fibre will run rampant throughout the cockpit while the drivers nestled into the revised racing seats can grip tight the Alcantara wrapped sports steering wheel.

Regarding power, the 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8 will continue to power the AMG GT Black Series albeit slightly tuned and possibly lighter. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that an excess of 600 horsepower races to the rear axle seeing as the same engine produces 577 hp in the GT R, and 603 in the E 63 S.

The latest addition to the AMG GT lineup is the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe S pushes out a mega 630 horses to each corner instead of the traditional rear-wheel drive setup

We can also expect a faster 0-100 km/h sprint time compared to that of the current GT R which currently races to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and it will probably ship with a higher top speed and a higher price tag of course.

It’s happening, it’s actually happening!
