Mercedes-AMG GT facelift spotted

The Mercedes-AMG GT in its current form has been around for nearly four years, and it’s about time for a mild update.

Spotted out in the open undergoing testing, the AMG GT retains the familiar styling as well as new headlights which are partly covered. Although they are slightly covered, one can spot thinner daytime running lights that also double up as the indicators.

Around the back, the prototype Mercedes-AMG GT sports a twin-exhaust outlets sticking out of either side and a restyled rear bumper.

The spy shots don’t reveal the interior, but sources indicate the cabin has also been covered up to shield what’s to come. We’re expecting a few changes here and there and possibly a larger infotainment system with a larger screen.

Mercedes are keeping power figures low key and have yet to reveal if there will be an increase in power. It’s most likely; the entire AMG GT range will retain the current 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

The base model currently produces 469 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque; the GT S has 515 hp and 669 Nm of torque. The drop-top GT C pushes out 550 horses and 690 Nm of torque and the range-topping GT R is good for 577 hp and 699 Nm of torque.

We can’t rule out a slight increase in power for all, but the biggest news of all is the return of the Black Series variant. Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG CEO has hinted the model will arrive in 2020 and sources report it could have as much as 600 horsepower if not more.

A load of details of the updated Mercedes-AMG GT remains unclear. However, the model is expected to arrive in 2019 as a 2020 model.
