Summary

This 2019 Nissan Patrol Super Safari represents the ultimate evolution of the legendary Y61 generation, a vehicle that holds immense cultural prestige across the GCC. While modern SUVs have moved toward complex electronics, the Super Safari remains the gold standard for mechanical purity and desert-conquering capability. Its 4.8L VTC engine is famous for its unbreakable nature and ease of tuning, making it a favorite for weekend overland trips. Dressed in gold, it offers a distinct presence that stands out in the region's typical sea of white and silver. For a buyer seeking a professional-grade off-road tool that doubles as a durable family workhorse, this spec is the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2019 Patrols

With 210,000 km, this vehicle reflects the higher annual usage typical of long-distance highway commutes across the GCC, where 25,000 to 30,000 km per year is common for heavy-duty SUVs. Unlike many city-only crossovers of the same year, the Super Safari is engineered for a half-million-kilometer lifespan, making this mileage a mid-point in its mechanical journey. The gold exterior is a rare alternative to the common white, offering a premium look that retains strong appeal in the secondary market.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Super Safari trim adds the essential luxury and aesthetic touches that the base Safari and Falcon trims lack, including the signature tan leather interior and distinct wood-grain trim. It features a factory-integrated refrigerator in the center console and a sunroof, both of which are high-demand items in the GCC climate. Externally, the Super Safari is distinguished by its 17-inch alloy wheels and the iconic body graphics that signal its position as the range-topping Y61 variant.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series, the Super Safari offers significantly better cabin refinement and a more comfortable coil-spring suspension for daily driving. While the newer Y62 Patrol leads in highway technology, the Y61 Super Safari remains superior in tight technical desert terrain due to its narrower body and better approach angles. Its 135-litre fuel capacity provides a massive range advantage for long-distance desert expeditions where fuel stations are scarce.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.8L straight-six is a high-consumption engine, typically averaging between 17 and 20 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. However, this is offset by exceptional reliability and the most affordable parts availability in the region, with authorized Nissan service centers located in virtually every major city from Riyadh to Muscat. Resale value for the Super Safari remains remarkably stable in the UAE and Saudi markets, often outperforming modern luxury SUVs due to its high demand among off-road enthusiasts.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the venerable TB48DE engine producing 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, this Patrol is built for torque-heavy sand climbing and effortless highway cruising. The heavy-duty 4WD system includes a manual-select low-range transfer case and a rear differential lock, providing the hardware needed to navigate the tallest dunes in the Liwa desert. Its body-on-frame construction and rigid axles ensure it can handle the stress of corrugated gravel tracks and rocky wadis that would damage monocoque competitors.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is tailored for the GCC summer, featuring a powerful dual-zone air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all seven passengers cool. The tan leather seats are durable and easy to maintain after desert trips, while the cooled center console box is a necessity for keeping drinks chilled during long cross-border drives. Despite its rugged exterior, the cabin provides a quiet environment with ample legroom for family road trips.

Safety

Standard safety features include dual front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) to maintain stability on slippery or sandy surfaces. The Super Safari also comes equipped with cruise control for reduced fatigue on long desert highways and front and rear parking sensors to aid in maneuvering its large frame in city traffic.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who values mechanical durability and desert heritage over modern gadgets, this Super Safari is a proven GCC workhorse ready for its next decade of service.
