Summary

This 2021 Nissan Patrol Safari is a modern example of a legendary off-road icon, offering a pure mechanical driving experience that is increasingly rare. With 74,000 km, the mileage is well within the expected range for a high-utility GCC vehicle, and its white exterior remains the most practical and high-demand resale color in the region. The 4.8L 'VTC' engine paired with a manual transmission is the ultimate configuration for purists, providing unmatched durability in extreme desert heat. For a GCC buyer, this car offers a unique blend of 2021 model-year reliability with the rugged, overlanding soul of a classic 4x4. It stands as a robust alternative to modern electronic-heavy SUVs, holding its value exceptionally well across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

This Car vs Other 2021 Patrols

While many 2021 Patrols in the GCC are the newer Y62 generation, this Safari (Y61) trim targets the enthusiast who prioritizes mechanical simplicity and off-road ruggedness. At 74,000 km, this car has been driven roughly 18,500 km per year, which is below the typical 25,000 km average for UAE-based highway commuters. The white paint is a strategic choice for the local market, offering the best heat rejection and the highest liquidity at the point of resale.

Safari vs Lower Trims

The Safari trim is a significant step up from the base GL, adding essential comfort and aesthetic upgrades that GCC buyers value, such as the iconic 'Safari' body decals and upgraded interior finishes. It features more robust cooling systems and refined cabin materials compared to lower workhorse trims, making it a more comfortable daily driver without sacrificing its legendary 4.8L VTC performance. This mid-to-high tier positioning ensures it remains highly desirable in the secondary market.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Safari is most often cross-shopped with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler. While the Toyota offers a similar 'old-school' feel, the Patrol Safari provides a more spacious 7-seat cabin and superior high-speed highway stability thanks to its coil-spring suspension. Its 135-litre fuel capacity is a massive advantage for cross-country drives between Dubai and Riyadh compared to the smaller tanks found in modern crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 4.8L engine typically averages between 17 and 19 L/100km in mixed GCC driving, reflecting its high-displacement, naturally aspirated nature. Maintenance is straightforward and affordable, with a massive network of authorized Nissan service centers and independent parts specialists available across every major GCC city. Historically, the Safari trim retains approximately 60-70% of its value after three years, outperforming almost every European rival in the same price bracket.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this vehicle is the 4.8-litre inline-six engine producing 280 hp and 451 Nm of torque, a powertrain celebrated for its ability to handle high-rev desert climbing without overheating. The manual transmission allows for precise control over the 4WD system, which includes a low-range transfer case for navigating deep sand or rocky wadis. With a factory ground clearance of 220mm, it is purpose-built for the diverse terrains of the UAE and Oman.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Safari offers a functional 7-seat layout with dual-zone climate control designed to combat 45°C+ summer temperatures effectively. The cabin features dedicated rear cooling vents to ensure all passengers remain comfortable during long family road trips. Despite its rugged exterior, the interior includes modern necessities like an infotainment system with Bluetooth and a cooler box, essential for keeping beverages cold during desert excursions.

Safety

Safety is managed through a suite of fundamental systems including dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The body-on-frame construction provides a rigid safety cell, while the high seating position offers excellent visibility on fast-moving multi-lane highways. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) comes standard to help maintain stability on loose gravel or sand-covered roads.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a late-model manual 'VTC' in the most resale-friendly color, perfect for the enthusiast who wants a bulletproof desert companion that holds its value like gold.
