Summary

This GCC-spec Nissan Patrol XE represents the entry point into the legendary 'Hero of All Terrains' lineup, combining rugged capability with everyday utility. While it serves as the base trim, it retains the essential body-on-frame architecture and intelligent 4x4 hardware that has made the model a staple of Middle Eastern desert culture. For a 2023 model, the mileage is slightly above the typical GCC annual average, yet the car's proven mechanical durability ensures it remains a dependable choice for both long-distance highway hauls and weekend off-roading. The grey exterior is a neutral, professional choice that holds up well in the intense summer heat and maintains consistent demand in the regional used market. A practical seven-seater, this Patrol offers the prestige and road presence of the Y62 generation without the premium price tag of the luxury-focused higher trims.

This Car vs Other 2023 Patrols

With approximately 67,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the regional average of 25,000 km per year, though this often reflects consistent highway use between emirates rather than heavy city traffic. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning tuned specifically for the extreme local climate, maintaining a higher resale premium over imported counterparts. The grey finish is highly practical for the region, effectively masking desert dust and resisting the paint oxidation often seen on darker vehicles in high-UV environments.

XE vs Lower Trims

As the foundational trim for the Patrol, the XE focuses on rugged essentials rather than cosmetic frills, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels and a durable cloth interior that stays cooler in the sun than leather. It includes a rear pintle hook as standard—a highly valued feature for desert recovery and towing that is often hidden or replaced by city bumpers on higher trims. You still receive the vital Intelligent 4x4 system and dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents, ensuring the core Patrol experience remains intact.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Patrol is often cited for its superior on-road refinement and highway stability, making it a favorite for long-distance family travel. Its massive 140-litre fuel tank capacity (standard on V6 models) provides a significant range advantage over rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe or Ford Expedition when crossing long stretches of desert highway. Furthermore, the Patrol's massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensures parts and expertise are never far away.

Running Costs & Resale

The Patrol 4.0L V6 offers a combined real-world fuel consumption of approximately 14.4 L/100km, which is standard for a full-size body-on-frame SUV in GCC stop-start traffic. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and the widespread availability of specialized workshops across the region helps keep long-term ownership costs predictable. The Nissan Patrol remains one of the highest value-retention vehicles in the GCC, typically losing only 12–15% annually, significantly outperforming European luxury SUV rivals in the used market.

Performance & Capability

Built on a heavy-duty chassis, this Patrol features a selectable Four-Wheel Drive system with low-range gearing and specialized modes for sand, rock, and snow. The 4.0L V6 engine provides reliable power for dune bashing and steady highway cruising, while the independent double-wishbone suspension ensures comfort even when the pavement ends. With a generous 273mm ground clearance and a 700mm wading depth, it is factory-ready for the most challenging terrain in the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat cabin is designed for family logistics, offering a 60/40 split in the second and third rows to accommodate varied cargo needs. The XE's powerful dual-zone air conditioning system is specifically engineered to drop cabin temperatures rapidly from 50°C to comfort levels, supported by essential vents for all three rows. Acoustic glass and thick insulation provide a quiet environment, shielding passengers from road noise during high-speed interstate travel.

Safety

Safety is managed through a comprehensive suite including front, side, and curtain airbags, along with Nissan’s Zone Body Construction to protect passengers in the event of an impact. Standard electronic aids like Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control are particularly useful when navigating steep sand dunes or rocky wadis. The inclusion of front and rear parking sensors as standard makes maneuvering this large SUV in urban parking environments significantly easier and safer.

The bottom line

This Patrol XE is the ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking the ultimate GCC status symbol and off-road capability in a modern 2023 package without paying for unnecessary luxury extras.
