Quite simply the VW Golf R Mk 7 is one of the best VW Golf’s yet, and more! This is one fun hot 3 door hatchback! In fact, it can make you laugh out loud at times. The chassis is rock solid, grip is outstanding, and the ride is a near perfect balance of comfort and firmness. Steering is light around parking lots and such, weighing up nicely as speeds increase. There are not many a car that feels this planted both going straight down the road and pushing it through corners. It is one of those rare cars that the harder you push, the better and more rewarding it feels.
Comparisons to the Audi S3 are inevitable, or the Benz A45 AMG (which is a lot more expensive). Overall, you get all the GTI practicality, but the R will hang with sports cars twice its price. What more could you want? The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine up front, four-wheel drive, and a dual-clutch DSG 7 Speed gearbox make for an excellent combination which cannot be matched in its class. The looks are tasteful with the Body-coloured rear spoiler, (5-V-spoke style) 19” alloy wheels, sport seats and the Vienna leather interior trim.
The Golf R is an extremely easy car to drive super quick! It’s got traction, pace, grip, with very little turbo lag when accelerating. The 2.0L turbo charged engine produces 292 BHP with the DSG gearbox doing 0-100kms in only 4.5 seconds! It has got all the straight-line performance you could need, and a great soundtrack too!
