Summary

This 2017 Ford Explorer BASE offers a compelling entry into the full-size family SUV segment with exceptionally low mileage for its age. While many 2017 models in the GCC have surpassed the 150,000 km mark, this silver example remains well under 70,000 km, preserving its mechanical longevity. Its naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 is widely preferred in the used market for its straightforward maintenance compared to newer turbocharged alternatives. Silver is a high-demand resale color in the region, reflecting heat effectively during the summer months. For families seeking a dependable seven-seater with a proven GCC track record, this Explorer represents a practical and value-retaining choice.

This Car vs Other 2017 Explorers

With only 68,334 km on the odometer, this Explorer has been driven roughly 9,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. Most comparable 2017 models have seen heavy school-run and highway duty, making this low-mileage silver unit a rare find. The silver exterior is ideal for the local climate, as it maintains its finish better than darker tones under the intense sun.

BASE vs Lower Trims

As the foundational trim for the Explorer lineup, the BASE model focuses on essential family utility while still providing the robust 3.5L V6 engine found in higher trims. It includes the SYNC infotainment system, rearview camera, and rear climate vents as standard, which are vital for passenger comfort in the GCC. Unlike the XLT, it avoids complex sunroof mechanisms that often require maintenance in dusty environments.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Ford Explorer stands out against rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander by offering a more substantial road presence and superior third-row accessibility. Its unibody construction provides a smoother, car-like ride on UAE highways compared to body-on-frame competitors. Additionally, the Ford offers one of the most generous cargo volumes in its class when the rear seats are configured for hauling.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L V6 is designed for longevity and is compatible with standard fuel grades found across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Owners benefit from one of the most established service networks in the GCC, ensuring parts are readily available and affordable. While American SUVs experience standard depreciation, the low mileage and GCC specification of this particular car help it maintain a stronger price floor than imported variants.

Performance & Capability

Delivering 290 hp, the V6 engine provides confident overtaking power for long highway stretches between emirates. The front-wheel-drive configuration is optimized for fuel efficiency and urban commuting, making it an ideal choice for city-based families. With a braked towing capacity of approximately 2,267 kg, it is also capable of hauling light trailers or jet skis for weekend activities.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin comfortably seats seven passengers across three rows, with dedicated rear AC vents to ensure the interior stays cool during peak summer temperatures. Cabin insulation is a highlight, effectively muting wind noise during high-speed highway cruising. Standard cloth seating is often preferred in the GCC for its durability and comfort in extreme heat compared to unventilated leather.

Safety

This Explorer is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, which is particularly useful on sandy or rain-slicked roads. It features a full array of airbags, including side-curtain protection for all three rows, and a standard rearview camera to assist in parking this large SUV. The 2017 model maintained high safety ratings, providing peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, GCC-spec Explorer that balances three-row practicality with proven mechanical simplicity. It is perfectly suited for a growing family looking for a reliable daily driver that has many years of service remaining.
